38%-ABV bottle
I first smell dense butter cooked agave and earthy minerals but it’s not a heavy scent. It’s lightened up with bright citrus notes of lemon and lime zest. There’s some alcohol vapors and some salinity. I also get some hints of mangos and ripe banana. It’s cooked agave and petrichor with a hint of sweetness. On the palate there is a pleasant density that I enjoy. The cooked agave flavor is prominent and very forward. The citrus zest is spicy with hints of sweet peppers. The warm cinnamon starts building on the mid palate and carries into the finish. There’s some agave sweetness that starts from the moment the tequila hits your lips and it too carries into the finish. That density starts as cooked agave and then gets earthy before becoming spicy all while having a slightly sweet note running through it.
This the new 3 barrel blend añejo release. Bottled 08/19/2023. Nose: Spices, citrus, and black cherry. Nutmeg, baking spice, mint and minerals. Fruity, fresh, agave driven with warm, embracing barrel notes. Flavor: Medium pepper punches through to the back palate. Ripe red orchard fruits and berries. Medium viscosity. Sweet and gently spiced. Not overly oaky. All delivered in a rounded, satiny flavor package. Medium long finish. This is a very small run, and MSRP is at an astonishingly attractive price.
Aromas: A wallop of cooked agave. Cinnamon, citrus, a wisp of vanilla. Dry carbonic minerals. Tropical “Juicy Fruit” banana/pineapple vibe. Minty. A touch of smokiness. Moist barn straw and a woody herbal note. Flavor: A forceful clap of black pepper and tongue tingling cinnamon oil. The pepper/cinnamon intensity abates, settling into enticing fruit and spice notes. Medium full body with a kiss of salinity. Shades of rustic. Nothing shy or timid about this expression. It’s great to see Tau and Vivanco jump back into the high proof arena. Added bonus, this HP comes at an approachable price point. For more detailed technical info, see Lou Agave’s full YouTube review.
This añejo is the best of the line. Lightly aged and lightly complex. Not a bad price point for a daily...
