Tasted at Agave Brothers Event
Blind tasted: Sweet agave and basic reposado framework, low complexity
Older repo. Very disappointing. Had high hopes too.
Orange peel, caramel, cinnamon, and oak. Nice legs with a short/medium finish. I enjoy Cabresto and this is the last expression for me to try—another winner.
Nose- agave, white pepper, grass, citrus, and chalk Taste- Cooked agave, black pepper, cinnamon, and an amazing honey sweetness that is never cloying. A little bit if alcohol heat as well. The sweet blends with the spicy notes perfectly. Finish- the sweetness quickly fades leaving the spicy pepper for a medium length finish. Value- While my tasting pour was free this is only $29 in my home state of Michigan so this is an exceptional value!
Aged for a whopping 7 years in charred white oak! The XA has the same great tears as the others, and the color is surprisingly “medium” considering the long aging. Very delicate on the nose, with a bit of flowers and orange—but not the heavy oak or caramel you’ll get from other XAs. I’m tasting cinnamon, agave, pepper, and orange—but they are soft and a little sweet as some vanilla peeks in. A bit thin, but overall very nice sipper.
Barrel heavy nose, subtle palate and alright finish
