This expression seems to be yet another tequila “Emperor’s New Clothes.” The nose was caramel and slight alcohol burn. Mid palate was the same caramel and alcohol burn and the body was so thin that I had to taste twice before I could taste anything past the heat. The finish faded almost instantly. I had such high hopes but was extremely disappointed. I paid $155 but live and learn I guess. I appreciated the experience but would never buy again.
smooth, delicious caramel undertones with hint of vanilla.
On the front palate, there’s definitely significant barrel influence; but something I haven’t seen mentioned yet is a specific note on the back palate/finish. The finish is where the agave shines and it’s taste like… THIN MINTS. Never experienced that note in a spirit, and to that. this anejo provides a unique experience that warrants praise.
love this Tequila. It similar to sipping excellent bourbon.
It smells of oak, vanilla butterscotch and alcohol. The taste is good, oaky with hints of vanilla and caramel. There’s a bit of a rasp/alcohol finish, but it’s not overpowering and finishes fairly smoothly.
Smoothe with some nice oak and caramel notes.
Flavors are do not have a lot of depth but are fine. The real problem is the price as you can find as good or better at lower price points.
Just not for me. Too caramel-y. Doesn’t taste real.
I’m rating this one on how I like it. Or how I dislike it. All barrel. No agave. If you are a whiskey drinker you should try this. I don’t detect any obvious additives but there are some strong barrel notes on the aroma and taste. The finish turns bitter which makes me think about possible manipulation bit it’s not overt.
Excellent sipper, beautiful amber color. No bite, finish lingers for a bit. A bit pricey but I prefer it to 1942. Superior packaging. Highly recommend it.
Very smooth finish. Lots of caramel and vanilla
Smoky aromas and sweet. Tastes really good, and finish a little bold but not lengthy
Minimal agave. Strong oak presence but there is a sweetness that seems like it is most likely additives. None the less, a great sipper. Flavors of pepper, tobacco and caramel. A small bite that you want in tequila but no burn. Vanilla, caramel and oak on the nose. Beautiful packaging.
65 per 750
wood, spice on the nose, feint agave and caramel gives it a slightly sweet smell. You can definitely taste the oak, a little spice, pepper, very smooth though. A light sweetness kicks in at the end. Even better the longer it opens up
Possibly the best sipping tequila I've ever had (excluding Chinaco Emperador). Flavorful bouquet, deep amber color, dried fruit, caramel, oak taste. Nice agave taste without overpowering or tasting too earthy. A wonderful addition to any home bar and packaged beautifully. Tip of the hat to Herradura on this gem.
Nose:Oak pine honey Tongue: oak honey Carmel cough syrup Finish: honey Oak Cough syrup... chocolate My guess, additives but good. Not overly sweet. After a couple ounces it gets kinda cooking chocolate in the finish.
Reviewed 1st in 2021; Fan of the brand since early 90’s. Herradura is the brand that brought me into the world of tequila & made me an enthusiast. In late 1997, I splurged HUGE on a bottle of Seleccion Suprema, opened it almost 10 years later at the announcement of our first pregnancy. Emotionally tied to the brand to say the least. Now, I’m proud to open this bottle & be the 1st reviewer. Ordered & shipped from Old Town. Packaging is nice, premium styling & design. Disappointingly, at the price point, bottle should provide handwritten barrel & bottle information. Nice nose, definitely sweet agave. Warm notes of vanilla across the tongue, more honey & caramel across the palate. This is an expensive bottle at $130. Updated, Jul23, due to price & additives, I am substantially lowering my rating.
AROMA: It smells like how you would expect an añejo to smell. I’m not expert by any means but it seems “stronger” than, say, Don Julio 1942. *Edit*: It’s been about 7 minutes since I’ve had about two nice drinks of it and I’m amazed at how I’m reacting now. I’m starting to sweat a little and I feel like the tequila is taking its affect on me, as I don’t drink often. But I can now smell the sweetness! It reminds me of Jack Daniels for some reason. I’m going to take another sip. TASTE: The taste is very bold. I mean pretty bold. Again, I’m by no means a connoisseur of tequila, so I’m not trained in spotting the oak or subtleties within but it’s very strong, at least that’s how I perceive it. *Edit (day 2)* So I decided to take another glass and try some more. I’m not sure if it’s the aeration from opening the bottle yesterday but my goodness, it’s a lot smoother now. I mean much, much smoother. It reminds me of Don Julio 1942. I’m enjoying it much more than I did yesterday and have changed my opinion. FINISH (day 1): I found the finish to be a bit harsh during my first two drinks, but now, it’s a bit smoother and pleasurable. Perhaps it’s because my palate and whatnot have to get accustomed to the tequila but the finish is enjoyable now. *Edit* (Day 2): The finish has improved markedly since yesterday. Truly, it’s extremely smooth and much more enjoyable, even at the first sip and gulp. I felt no harsh burn or anything anymore; it’s warm going gown and the aftertaste is very pleasant. It’s toasty. DRINK AGAIN (day 1): While I do enjoy the flavor, aroma, and finish of this tequila, I believe it’s a bit too bold for me. I prefer it to be smoother. It’s a good tequila but maybe I just need to become more attuned to the intricacies of añejos. *Edit* (Day 2): I would definitely drink it again. I’m sure someone knows the answer but the tequila is a lot smoother now. As mentioned, maybe it’s because I opened it yesterday and the alcohol in the bottle has become aerated. Very pleasant now. I would definitely drink it again.
Herradura hit it out of the park with this one !! Dangerously easy to drink! Absolutely paints the glass! The box says that it has seriously deep cut char on the cask, and they weren’t lying! Butterscotch , smoke, sweet agave through and through....super long finish... the price point sends it over the top to the 98 points , the salesman at the store said he was the first to get it. Very select market!!! Will definitely be going up , when word gets out!
