Very sophisticated EA. Great balance between spices, nutty, right amount of oak and a nice creamy finish. Highly suggest it at the price!
Wow. This is an amazing crafted expression from Felipe. Well rounded and just perfect. So easy to sip
agave, warm pineapple, caramel, citrus. flavor holds true to aroma. some baking spice. incredibly subtle oak (in a good way). good mouthfeel, warming on tongue but heat disappears before it hits the throat.
An outstanding XA from an outstanding distillery, great balance of agave, oak, and citrus with a smooth finish
Aroma : Cooked agave and floral notes with mint and citrus. For an extra añejo that was definitely a surprise. Not much oak or aged notes to speak of. Taste : Crisp underlying agave and light oak. Caramel and almond/hazelnut predominate with some degree of baking spice. This is lightly sweet and somewhat spicy. Oily and complex too. Finish : Long and prolongs all the taste notes with some stronger baking spice. Top tier extra añejo. I hope I'll be able to find the "55" version soon because this was a hard one to put down.
G4 Extra Anejo This nose is full of cooked agave and buttery vanilla. The agave punches through nicely, you only get some slight oak but a sweet clean finish. I appreciate that Felipe utilizes older used barrels for aging. This allows the tequila tastes to still dominate without the oak taking over. Well done. ¡Salud!
This XA is one of my favorites to date. For the price, the value is excellent. Felipe is a mad scientist when it comes to creating epic juice and this is no exception. The aroma is of cooked agave, butterscotch and caramel. On the palate you will be treated with an agave-forward taste with a slightly orange blossom, citrusy taste with an oaky/woody, black peppery finish.
Vibrant nose of pineapples, citrus, agave and nuts. Clean feel to this one. First comes caramel and nuts, followed by baking spices, anise and pepper. Kissed with a lactic note. Nice agave presence - no overpowering oak at all. Lingering finish that invites another sip and another sip...
Vanilla on the nose, with taste of vanilla, oak, and citrus—all balanced nicely. Very good.
Tasted some of JW's G4 XA . Such a delight from Felipe's private barrel. Great to have friends with connections.
The aroma is interesting for an XA...it is not understated or discreet but does not have much if any barrel in the mix. Floral notes and agave predominate with a bit of an almost honeysuckle sweetness. Everything is nice and light. The flavor has a nice initial sweetness followed by baking spice and peppery heat. The finish has a nice lingering heat and is medium long. At the price ($63), this is an incredible value. 12/30/2016 - 4th Annual Xmas XA tasting.
Aroma: Interesting notes for an extra anejo. I get pine, mint, and it's also slightly floral. These are notes more traditionally seen with Blancos (at least for me). But, there is also hints of oak and caramel. Flavor: Slightly spicy but heavy in winter type notes. Caramel, clove, oak, and definitely one I could see myself sipping on a cold winter night. Finish: Very nicely balanced and hangs around for a while. Not overly strong and tons of flavor hangs around.
Gets better every time I try it. Gracias Felipe Camarena!
Added: BAT 2016 bottling of this juice is absolutely the highest proof XA I have tasted. Truly a one of a kind bottling of tequila made by Felipe Camarena. A well rounded extension of prior expressions, this 3 year aged extra añejo is very easy to drink. Never sweet or syrupy it has a nice feel in the mouth and reminds me very much of Ocho XA, which was also developed by Felipe C. in the early days of the brand. Get some. Might see some importation soon as G4 grows it's distribution in MX.
Caramel, butterscotch, nutmeg, anise, cinnamon, soft wood notes, a little mint, vanilla, and agave. Very complex. Sip this neat only. It’s too good to put in a cocktail. 9.4/10
Lot 0001XA - 38% from Mexico, Bottled 2015. Bought from El Búho in Tlaquepaque. Soft cooked agave, caramel, vanilla, fruity, oak. Nice aftertaste that lingers. Incredible tequila, easy sipper.
agave, vanilla, oak. delicious
On the nose it’s really complex- agave- wet oak- anise- barrel spice; on the palate- oaky agave- black pepper- vanilla Carmel leather earth combo- finish is thick and slightly numbing… it’s good. After sitting out while I tasted others- this Extra Anejo is incredible…way more complex than it was 30 minutes ago. Wife said it’s more complex with lots of oaky flavors than before… pop of wood.
Lot 0001XA - Mexico 38% Bottled 2015 Aroma is the star of the show. Full of barrel influences and sweet agave. Very fruity, and caramel. Absolutely stellar and one of my favorite aromas. The pallet is soft, it is an easy sipper. I wish it had more punch to the pallet, but it’s still very good. Agave, and spice in the back end. Finish is mild, subtle but good. Great taste in the back end. Value in Mexico 75-80 USD, this is a bargain. 8/10 would be higher if the price was comparable in the USA.
LOT L0001XA, bottled on 02/09/15, Mexican 38% abv. version. Color: between yellow & dark yellow. Aroma: sweet cooked agave! Mint, herbs, a touch of acidity, very light wood notes, fresh for an XA, sweet anise. Palate: sweet cooked agave, minty, fresh, very light wood notes that do now overpower other aromas & taste, slightly acidic. Finish is medium to long, fresh sweet cooked agave notes persist.
Lot L0001XA Bottled: 02/09/15 Nose: Taste: wood taste not very expressive. A little bitter shortly after swallow. Finish: a little dry with slight hints of wood finish.
More affordable option on the extra anejo space with good barrel notes
Oak and light agave and caramel on the nose. Palate is subtle agave and a little more oak. Nose is a little muted for an EA.
Aroma: oak, agave, cinnamon, vanilla, honey Palate: thin, agave, vanilla, black pepper
