Nose: Gentle smoke, fruit and earthiness. Citrus rind and spiciness. A caramel/vanilla undercurrent. A slight sour note. The smokiness is not overpowering. It is well integrated into the aroma as a whole. Flavor: A big punch of pepper on entry, with accompanying bold anise. Oily, buttery, sweet fruit notes and agave. There is a butterscotch, caramel, toffee thing going on. The pop of pepper lingers but marries well with viscous sweetness. Neither the 50.5% ABV, nor the mesquite smokiness seem to be out of synch. This coats the entire palate and has staying power in the finish.

Very good. Smokey, earthy, and agave.very similar tasting to mezcal. Truth be told though, for the price I would rather get a mezcal.

A beauty at 105 proof, just the right amount of smoke and balance citrus notes. A little pricey but a special bottle from the makers of Patron

Nice creamy mouth feel. Rich cooked agave and butter leading to a lingering smokey finish. Pricey!

I love the premise of this product, it has all the enticing qualities of blue agave with a medium dose of smoke. I get a healthy hit of caramel which is odd considering it’s not barrel aged. Overpriced as fuck but I like it!

Gentle smoke, slight cheese & earthy aromas but it's the agave that shines above all. Loving the aroma. Smoke gentle on the nose, but much more prominent in the flavor, yet still allows the agave to come through loud and strong. This is a perfect balance between agave and smoke. Oily mouthfeel and creamy finish. The finish has nice waves of complexity as it slowly fades. Well done! (It would have rated even higher for value if the price was a bit lower.)

Sweet, slow-cooked agave, smoke and herbal and earth notes with a rounded, flavorful mouthfeel. The sweet agave flavor is followed - and balanced- by a smoky finish that lingers pleasantly. Highly drinkable for 50.5 abv. Well-crafted product that feels like an elegant, long-ago tequila, and not a mezcal. The mature blue agave is the star of this smoky show.

Purchased Gran Patron Smoky Silver after viewing an impressive video of the production of Gran Patron Smoky filmed by Grover highlighting the movements by a handful of tequila brands to return to the “artisanal” methods of production, including the cooking (hydrolysis) of the agave in underground earthen pits- in the manner that mezcal is still produced today. As anticipated, the nose and mouthfeel is distinctively smoky, accompanied by cooked agave, earth, vegetal, citrus, grassy, alcohol, buttery and soft peppery notes. Though a enjoyable product, unfortunately this move to a labor intensive “artisanal” tequila has the unintended consequences of increased costs associated with the benefit of a smoky nose and palate which is on the edge of the spectrum for everyday tequila consumers. If you fancy smoke, this tequila will delight.

LOTE SMO L21078PA702 14:25, bottled on 0010718. Aroma: at the beginning it was not expressive, 15 minutes later in the glass it opens up but a light smokiness is present, cooked agave, minty, light citrus, it has a light aromatic honey like aroma. Green melon. Palate: cooked agave, earthiness, minty freshness, light honey like sweetness, though agave notes are not very expressive. Finish is long, smoked agave notes persist.

This is very good, I liked it, I’m also perpetually a bit confused by the making of ancestral style Tequilas with very high retail prices in the context of availability of tons of great Mezcals for pretty low prices. Sort of like the bar by my house who is all excited about their smoked tequila cocktail and I’m like, y’know Mezcal exists already right, you could just save a lot of trouble and pour from that bottle over there.
