Tasted at the before and after party at NW Agave Fest. Aromas of dried fruit, oak, agave predominate. In the mouth this is quite dry with some malted barley from the whiskey barrel and orange zest as well as agave and oak. Not over flavored by the double barreling I was surprised a bit by this and noted none of the diffuser funk that I have tasted with the blanco recently. Short dry finish holds this back in the rating.

Un poco dulce. Aparecen ligeras notas de Whisky, pero se pierde el sabor del agave.

Don Julio Buchanan's Limited Edition Reposado Tequila. Don Julio collaborated with Buchanan's and finished their Don Julio Tequila in the casks used in the making of Buchanan's blended Scotch Whisky. I had to purchase this tequila because Don Julio is a solid brand and I’m curious about their product being finished in a scotch barrel. Most aged tequilas are finished in used bourbon barrels. On the nose I detect sweet vanilla, cooked agave, floral and citrus notes. I don’t drink scotch so I might be missing some notes. I taste the influence of the scotch barrel. It isn’t overwhelming but it’s noticeable. This Reposado would be fun to include in a horizontal flight. The finish is smooth and seems short but after a second there is a nice warming mouth hug. Is that a scotch thing? This is a fun and different reposado. If you want to try something different then this tequila is for you.

Revisited and edited October 2, 2019 I was encouraged to give this one another try. I originally thought it to have an overwhelming Scotch influence. Fresh bottle, fresh start..... Nose: Dried fruit, ripe red fruit, vanilla and wet soil. Subtle spiciness. A velvety bouquet. Flavor: The Scotch barreling notes muscle into the flavor profile immediately. But the vanilla roundness somewhat tames the over exuberant dry Scotch scratchiness. White pepper heat builds as you sip. Finish: Clipped and a touch bitter. A definite upgrade from my original rating.

First it tastes well, little heat though. But finish is too light, to thin. Missing some warmth. Not very exciting. But a very easy tequila nevertheless.
