Below average añejo. Where I bartend at we have a margarita that we use Patron Añejo. It’s actually great as a mixer. Contrary to what we usually do it adds a different element to a margarita.

Nose: Agave, touch of honey. Light vanilla notes. Definitely a hint of banana and butterscotch. Palate: Agave and caramel, right off the bat. Vanilla, and a very strong whiskey note. Bourbon, I think. I get the barrel notes for sure, but not a ton else. Verdict: Try it. It’s a competent añejo. If your choice is this or picking up a 1L of Tapatio for another couple bucks, by all means skip it. But at $45-50/bottle, I see no real flaws here. It’s a competent, albeit simple tequila. It tastes quality, no crappy diffuser notes, additive free, and an all around decent sipper. It’s not top shelf, but honestly, I don’t understand the hate it gets. I really think it’s just cool to hate on Patron, And that’s why everybody does. The blanco is a little pricy for what it is, but at least here in California, the añejo is reasonably priced. I assume the blanco and repo are priced up to account for that, but I’m not sure.

Nose is Baking spices, Werther’s original candy, cooked agave. More caramel on the palate, it’s sweet which turns to some burn and a lingering, albeit simple, finish.

Patron Anejo Nose: Sweet cooked agave / perfume. Oak and dark fruit. Taste: Fruity oak and cooked agave. Slightly astringent. Finish: Short clean finish $50 ATX

Not a very strong Anejo contender by any means. Fair aroma with not as much wood as would be expected. Good even flavor and definitely not low end tasting. Finish was best part with light, even burn and where most of the flavor expands. Great gateway tequila and respectable enough to serve to guests or bring to a party.

Love the barrel selection here, they have made a really great Añejo. Agave still present which isn’t easy, no wonder they sell millions of these bottles!

Nose: Has moderate agave, barrel spices, vanilla and a floral note. Ripe fruit aroma. Flavor: Sweet agave and a little pepper kick. Semi oily on the tongue with vanilla/ almond notes. Ripe fruit, perhaps cherries and guava. Finishes with pepper and vanilla. Patron always takes the knocks because of pricing and predisposed assumptions. Yes, there are better. And I think they try to hit a target audience with a product that is middle of the road. But it is a well crafted tequila - just not stellar.

Flavors and aromas are muted. At this price, I expected a more.

Rated blind. Aroma rich with vanilla and cake batter, and not very complicated. Grass, hay, straw also present. Flavor is warm and sweet, with a dry finish. This is not an overly aged tequila, which I appreciate, but it's also very simple.

Bottle: L22221PA100, 2123, LOTE A 1422 Appearance: Dark straw Nose: Cooked agave, oak, vanilla, alcohol, barrel spice, black pepper, caramel, honey, flowers, butterscotch, cinnamon, butter, minerality, brine/salinity, acetone, raisin, molasses, coconut, generic citrus, and barrel spice…best nose of the standard lineup Palate: Oak, vanilla, cooked agave, cinnamon, jalapeño, alcohol, black pepper, barrel spice, molasses, raisin, honey, acetone, oregano, whiskey, clove, medicinal, and nutmeg…decent aging punctuated by noticeable defects Finish: Medium long, oak, alcohol, whiskey, and slightly medicinal…just off enough to notice Overall: I’m not sure what it is (possibly the carbon filtration, maybe unripe agave, etc), but the there is something present in all of the standard Patrón tequilas that comes off as bitter and unpleasant. It was the least noticeable in this expression, but was present just enough that I couldn’t justify scoring it any higher.

Better than the patron repo, but not by much! This was the best they had at a random bar I went to. Alcohol, barrels flavors, followed by light agave, pepper, vanilla.

It’s a weak Añejo. Almost like a Reposado. But not bad by any means.

Aroma is nice- caramel, vanilla, oak, and pepper. Seems to be missing agave. Taste- it’s good. Oaky pepper with barrel spice and warm caramel finish with more pepper. Be nice to taste more agave.

I have always liked patron tequila. I know most of my friends don't, and wouldn't consider buying it. now the anejo is truly something that I like. I have not had a patron in years as my friends won't drink it. someone gifted a friend some patron anejo and he loved it. he bought me a bottle as he knew that I enjoyed patron in the old days. what a delight for me. the barrel aging did wonders for me. a nice smooth sweetness.

away from tequila, more in whisky type, oak flavour bc it’s spent longer time in the barrel, looses butterscotch, smoother less sweet (smoother, less sweet)

Smell: Strong, sweet alcohol odor but not offensive. Notes of agave, vanilla, brown sugar, honey. Taste: Too salty for my liking, Quite sweet. Notes of butter, caramel and wood. Finish: Finish reminiscent of burbon, spicy and peppery. Vegaetal ending, detected notes of raspberry.

Review #95 - Patron Tequila Anejo

While I feel like Patron is given harsh treatment from tequila lovers because of it's influence on people with the marketing, but I also feel like it has its place.
