Tau High Proof Aug 6, 2024 This was my first time trying any of the Tau expressions. Nose: at first I got anise and alcohol. As I let it sit and open, I got some mint and cinnamon, then tropical fruits = banana, mango. It keeps evolving! Palate: immediately got an explosion of sweet cooked agave, some cinnamon and cracked pepper Finish: long and warm with cinnamon and pepper Overall: I really enjoyed this one. At $80, it's good value. Thanks to Matt C for sharing a sample with me

The first nosing I was reminded of a childhood candy, bit-o-honey. With almond and honey notes. Upon deeper nosing, I did get plenty of agave, cinnamon and citrus. On the tongue, sweet agave is the first thing I taste. I get cinnamon, pepper and banana. Also some mint. The alcohol is present on the finish but not too overwhelming. This is another nice offering from 1414 who continues to roll out one great tequila after another.

Tau is very herbaceous and minty on the nose. There's a touch of lemon balm and grapefruit as well with very dominate cooked agave and minerality. light to medium bodied, I'm getting mint, herbs and cooked agave big time with hints of a sweet fruitiness not dissimilar to mango. Not bad at all!

Nose: agave / earth / pepper / banana/ hint of grapefruit/ lemongrass / rose / mineral Taste: agave sweet cooked / pepper / cinnamon/ hint of vanilla/ banana / lime / licorice/ tea / spearmint/ alcohol Finish: very light viscous sweet agave / light watery syrup feel…really nice and velvety / lingering cinnamon and vanilla This high proof blanco provides great boldness of flavors that mask almost all of the alcohol, and what’s there is an enjoyable amount. The nose is not strong but the flavors and finish are very good.

Minty herbaciousness, agave on the nose and tongue, great sipper, well done Tau, this is a heavy hitter for $60-70

I first smell dense butter cooked agave and earthy minerals but it’s not a heavy scent. It’s lightened up with bright citrus notes of lemon and lime zest. There’s some alcohol vapors and some salinity. I also get some hints of mangos and ripe banana. It’s cooked agave and petrichor with a hint of sweetness. On the palate there is a pleasant density that I enjoy. The cooked agave flavor is prominent and very forward. The citrus zest is spicy with hints of sweet peppers. The warm cinnamon starts building on the mid palate and carries into the finish. There’s some agave sweetness that starts from the moment the tequila hits your lips and it too carries into the finish. That density starts as cooked agave and then gets earthy before becoming spicy all while having a slightly sweet note running through it.

Aromas: A wallop of cooked agave. Cinnamon, citrus, a wisp of vanilla. Dry carbonic minerals. Tropical “Juicy Fruit” banana/pineapple vibe. Minty. A touch of smokiness. Moist barn straw and a woody herbal note. Flavor: A forceful clap of black pepper and tongue tingling cinnamon oil. The pepper/cinnamon intensity abates, settling into enticing fruit and spice notes. Medium full body with a kiss of salinity. Shades of rustic. Nothing shy or timid about this expression. It’s great to see Tau and Vivanco jump back into the high proof arena. Added bonus, this HP comes at an approachable price point. For more detailed technical info, see Lou Agave’s full YouTube review.

Lot: TAUBCO2371, bottled on 18/08/23, tasted on 6-26-24. Aromas: intense cooked agave, acidity, green vegetal notes, light earthiness, light sourness that becomes slightly more evident as time goes by, wet cement, pepper spiciness sensation. Palate: confirms aromas perceived, raw agave, good sweet & sour balance, intense agave flavor. Hint of wood spiciness. Thick & oily mouthfeel. Finish is medium to long, clean cooked agave, light earthiness, balanced sweet & sour with light green vegetal notes persist. Cooked agave note becomes slightly sweet at the very end.
