Don fulano 20 yr Tasted a sample Sept 16, 2023 Courtesy of Greg, Lou and Seattle Juan. Muchas gracias amigos for sharing! Nose: fruit agave bown sugar cinnamon, sherry comes thru on the nose, a little minerality. Not a lot of oak, which I like. Palate: mellow sweet agave, sherry. plums and a little pepper come thru as it opens. Well-balanced. Easy sipper! Color: light; looks like a reposado. Legs: are very nice, slow and thick Finish: shery comes thru agin. dry with a warmth that lingers.
Super balanced on the nose an in the mouth. Better with some air. Fairly mellow, given the age. Can tell it’s 44%. It’s sweet. Not too sweet. Barrel. Not too much barrel. Caramel. But not too much caramel. The genius blenders at DF have pulled out all the stops here. A tequila worthy of their remarkable 20 year history.

From a sample bottle of about 3 ounces in size courtesy of Lou and Greg, gracias you two. Very nice nose right after the small bottle was opened and from the glass when poured. Tasting from a Glencairn Copita glass which has about a five ounce capacity. The sherry finish is very apparent on the nose and yet this also has a dryness that is upfront and really comes forward as the juice is sipped and held in the mouth for any length of time. Very cool stuff that reminds me of some sherry finish single malts I’ve tasted both from WA and other places. Nice tingly finish with some acidity that hangs on the tongue after much of the tequila elements have passed on. Bravo 1146 and Salud for Veinte Años.
I let it open up a bit before tasting. A bit light on the nose and also too dry for my liking. I'm hoping it will open up further each pour.
Nose: Dried fruits galore. Raisins, prunes, dates, figs and citron. Also fresh lime and orange citrus aromas. Candied nuts. A dusting of cinnamon. Passing hint of peat? Or smoke? mingling alongside the subtle sherry. Flavor: Plush and satiny on the palate, curiously coexisting with a burst of pepper heat. Nuts, salinity. Delicate vanilla and almond. Some tannins rest on the sides of the tongue. Fruit and agave still playing prominent roles. Take time to let the bouquet and flavors bloom. They really blossom and take on new dimension.
Honestly, on the nose, there’s definitely sherry, but also hints of pizza/Doritos. Sounds weird, but trust me. Try it, if not for the rarity, certainly for the novelty
Simply outstanding. Fantastic nose that blends agave, barrels, and lil sherry kick. Incredible mouthfeel. If you find it, buy it. I’m a blanco lover, but could sip on this all night. Tasting notes to follow …
Loved the nose on this naturally sweet sipper. The Sherry barrel definitely influenced this blended Anejo. Flavor profile was caramel, cooking spices, dried fruit and vanilla, with light agave notes. Full mouth fell. Definitely a late night sipper
This stuff is amazing, folks. If you see it, grab it. There are very few brands that can do Sherry Cask aging right, and this is one. Slightly higher alcohol means you should take it slow with this and enjoy the ride as it open up to reveal all of the complexity and layers that will emerge. A+++
A tour de force of the barrel-aging capabilities of 1146. So much more complexity than the baseline anejo. Pretty special expression.
I had the pleasure of sitting with friends to share the newly released Don Fulano 20th Aniversario Sherry Cask añejo. The consensus was unanimous - we were all thoroughly impressed. Striking a perfect balance, it avoids an overwhelming oakiness while delivering exceptional flavor. The aroma is rich in dried fruit, a characteristic I typically appreciate, and this expression did not disappoint. The nose combines cooked agave, orange, and a subtle hint of caramel for a harmonious blend. On the palate, a natural sweetness unfolds, accompanied by the distinct presence of cooked agave and subtle barrel nuances. The sherry influence takes center stage, accentuated by notes of black pepper, dried plum, apricot, and a touch of nut and caramel. The finish is of medium duration, concluding with a subtle hint of citrus peel. The higher proof 44.4% ABV, effectively elevates the agave essence and brightens the overall flavor profile. I had the opportunity to taste it alongside the Jerizito Sherry Cask añejo, both produced at NOM 1146, and my preference leaned towards the 20 Aniversario. Despite its elevated price point, the overall experience was undeniably enjoyable, and I would highly recommend it.
I like this. The barrel flavor is good, leaves it with a nice dried fruit finish.
Nose- sherry, sweet and fruity Taste-sweet agave with a mix of citrus and dried fruit and of course, sherry. The finish reminds me of the pith of an orange. Its a bit dry but nice and warm.
Aroma: dried stone fruits and a hint if chocolate on the nose. Subtle sweetness Flavor: Stone fruits coming back with a great rich roasted agave flavor. Almost tannic in nature the way it dries out the tongue afterwards. A real full and rich flavor that lingers.
I little dry. Boozy on the nose but it is 89 proof. Am I glad I tried it, yes. Would pay to sip it again, maybe.
To me, this smells like Don Fulano Fuerte meets Fortaleza Anejo. Then you taste it, and it starts with the familiar Don Fulano Fuerte mature agave flavor, then spins to a nice sweet vanilla barrel influence, and the finish veers way out (in a good way) to citrus peel that lingers with a bit of mouth and tongue zing. It’s really good.
Lacking flavor wise in my opinion. Will revisit. Put drink again because I bought a whole bottle
Nose: caramel, vanilla, dried fruit, agave Palate: cooked agave, black pepper, oak, savory/salty note that I can’t put my finger on! Nice tequila. Didn’t invest in a bottle but got a sample from a friend. Not sure I’d buy a whole bottle but it is delicious. Congrats to the DF team.
This is amazing!!!! Don’t pass up the opportunity if you get it. It is a mix but don’t be fooled. It is amazing! The flavors don’t stop… Wow!
Wow. This is incredible. So many great flavors and aromas! And yet there is still plenty of deep, dark roasted agave. I like the 44.4 abv heat in the mouth and finish. Warm and so good. Bottle 642 at Baja Betty’s.
Smothering sweetness of sherry caramel notes…delicious
# 1714 Meh',needs additives
No info could be read from the marbete from year 2016. The paper wrapping the neck of the bottle states: En memoria de nuestro amigo Tomas Estes. 1945-2021. Color: dark yellow. Aroma: golden raisins, light red cherry, light acidity, light citrus notes, active wood notes are quite strong & overpowering, after 30 minutes in the glass I can smell very light cooked agave notes, the raisin notes become more evident and sweeter like black raisins, wood notes are softer but still evident and a vanilla notes emerges, maybe U.S. oak was used? Light black pepper spiciness. Palate: creamy toffee initially, black raisins, light acidity, astringent maybe due to active wood tannins, through retronasal i can smell vanilla notes. Finish is medium to long, light raisin with active wood notes persist. Wood notes are too active, overpowering and astringent. Agave notes have been almost all masked, luckily, at the very end I get a subtle agave sweetness on my palate.

Nose: hints of cooked agave, dried fruit, raisins, orange citrus, light barrel notes, and sherry in the background Flavor: cooked agave sweetness, dried fruit, nuts, vanilla, caramel, salinity, and very well balanced, and nice mouth feel Finish: is long with some black pepper spice, barrel notes and hints of sherry
