Nose: Agave/ alcohol/black pepper/anise/stone fruit/mint/honeysuckle Flavor: Agave, A bit more earthiness, black pepper, and a sweet honey flavor Mouthfeel: Very light mouthfeel, swishes between the cheeks gracefully and with ease. Finish: Agave, Black Pepper, Mint, Honey, and Anise.
Nose: agave/ lactic funky / pepper / vegetal / earth / hint of lime / lemongrass / sage / mineral Taste: agave sweet / cinnamon/ banana/ pepper / vegetal / apple/ melon / hint of orange peel / tea / mint / alcohol Finish: slightly bitter and has lactic funkiness that lingers, but otherwise a nice clean crisp mouthfeel This blanco fuerte is 43.5% abv but has a lot of boldness in flavor, as though it was high proof. The flavors are good and if the bitter and lactic funkiness were removed I’d be much happier.
The aroma introduces light ethyl, orange citrus, cooked agave, light vanilla, and a hint of bitter green apple. On the palate, you gather notes of cooked agave with a raisin essence, complemented by lemon, lime, and orange citrus. Light minerality, plum, cooked sweet potato, light caramel, and lightly salted butter add depth. Bitter cider, faint nuttiness, mint, green apple, and pineapple round out the flavor profile. The finish features fading cooked agave, grassiness, and a lasting lemon citrus that clings pleasantly to the palate.
Nose has a bit of alcohol that can tingle the nostrils. Agave and mint. Herbal with minerals and black pepper. Taste is pepper forward. Minerals and alcohol. Sometimes high ABV enhances great tastes. In this case it is slightly overpowering.
LOTE 5 2 P S 8 1 7 43.5% ABV Warming nasal impact. Cooked agave, mineral, cinnamon and some floral chamomile notes. There is slight smoke present on the aroma. Oily mouthfeel with sufficient alcohol. Cooked, ripe agave and pepper are noticed first then licorice, honey, mineral and some brine. The pepper and some licorice linger on the long finish. This would hold up very well in Ranch Waters and Palomas. Makes a very nice (slightly) high proof sipper at a great price (around $38) with the added bonus of a 1 ltr bottle and a screw cap, perfect for traveling. I gave this 8/10 on value, which gives it a pretty high score. Another winner from NOM 1146.
Nice high proof blanco, cooked agave shines here, bonus liter bottle, another well made tequila from 1146.
On the nose, I get an immediate hit of pepper, before cooked agave and baking spices come in. A bit of clove and then citrus, distinctly orange peel/oil, followed by a fruity note and some nice minerality. On the palate, loads of cooked agave, a very nice minerality and less pepper than the nose, but it’s still there. A touch of anise, and a rubbery note that i can’t quite put my finger one. Very interesting. A nice balanced sweetness. Finish for days. Overall an excellent tequila and an excellent bargain. This may be my new Tapatio. Minor points off nose for me because I’m not a big fan of loads of pepper on the nose, but this more than makes up for it in flavor and finish.
Alcohol on the nose, makes sense for HP but agave comes through nicely. Little bit of heat and pepper on the pallet with some bitterness on the finish but went away on second pour. Extra points for $30 for a 1L
Aroma is great with bright cooked agave. Taste is a little rough getting into the mouth-very hot. Second sip way better. Good taste. Finish is almost as good as the aroma-fairly long and brings back some of the pleasant sensations from the aroma.
Nose: Mineral, some cooked agave, nice sweetness Flavor: Cherry, cinnamon, black pepper, light smokiness, with a light oily mouth feel Finish: Medium finish with some bitterness
Screw cap bottle. Aroma: Alcohol, mineral, mint, agave, spearmint, cherry, chamomile. Palate: cherry, peppery, licorice, smoke, minerals. Finish medium and ends traditional but with a medicinal after taste
Not a sutil tequila to my nose. Sweet aromas, peppery notes and some nice butterscotch notes. Great character! Love how flavor explodes in my mouth. Lot of pepper out front. Amazing finish, clean and well balanced.
Nose : Multilayered spices. Double Bubble bubble gum juiciness. Almost a wood like fragrance with minerals. This nose is difficult to dissect or pigeon hole - but full of good surprises. A touch of smoke. Flavors: Finely ground black pepper and cinnamon give this some heat. Salted licorice and a touch of smoked salami. Not terribly complicated, but a pleasant sip for high proof blanco.
Great sipper. A. Bit higher proof, after about 20 minutes it mellows and great aroma and flavors. Aroma of Agave, honey suckle, some citrus. Taste sweet, silky, bright flavors, pepper, vegetable. Some brine/salty. Long finish.
One of my Top 3 fav HP / SS / OP out there . Very tasty. Amazing nose. Even better finish
Partially muted nose, light raw agave, pepper, mineral and smoky. Good flavor, cooked agave, mineral, mint, smoky, light citrus, and earthy. Finish: medium. Great product coming out of Nom 1146 and at a fantastic price point! Bought in Colorado for $48 (750ml) Lote: 035PSB22
Really liked this high proof from an under the radar brand. On the nose I got citrus, black pepper, honey Palette was sweet cooked agave, hint of mint, citrus and pepper Nice finish with a little heat from the high proof. Definitely recommend this one!
On the nose: Pepper with some agave, lots of mineral. On the palate: agave with pepper followed by through. Some agave and smokiness. Woody pepper? I’ll buy this over and over again. Price point and profile are on point.
Lote: 96PSB18, bottled on 15-01-2022. Aroma: intense cooked agave note with light sweetness because these is a light briny note, light black pepper, light sprite sensation, slight acidity, good sweet sour and acidic balance. Palate: intense cooked agave! Thick mouthfeel, pepper spiciness, good sweet sour and acidic balance, no brine sensation on the palate, light agave sweetness, slightly minty & fresh. Finish is medium to long, light sweet cooked agave notes with minty sensation persist.
A great budget blanco fuerte. Nice agave smell. Great strong presence. Easy to sip and full flavor. This one brings the heat on the way down.
Mild aroma, maybe a little citrus. Pretty good flavor. Mainly getting mild jalapeño pepper with some vegetalness. It is 87 proof so you get a little more strength for a good price. Getting some champagne flavor at the end.
No additives
Nose: Sweet cooked agave, some decent smoke which is stronger when after sniffing the empty glass. Some spice, and a hint of fruit. Palate: Nice cooked agave, a little bit of burn with a nice minerality as well. Definitely some smoke coming through. Mouth feel is pleasant and it has a medium finish. Nice cherry flavor in the background, but it showed up sporadically, not every sip for me. You can find this for around $30-$50 and it's a steal at that price.
Nose - Agave, nutmeg, and a bit metallic. Taste - Agave, metallic, lots of black pepper, and baking spices. Finish - Medium length. More pepper and spices. If you like pepper and spices, this is for you. I love NOM 1146, but I’m not crazy about this one. I just can’t help but thinking I’d rather be drinking Cimarron.

sample from john welch feb 2025 agave pepper mild anise pitted fruit thoughts while I was tasting and didn't know abv "this doesn't drink like a fuerte." well, it's only 43.5 abv so that's why empty glass smells very pleasant - cooked agave and pitted fruit
