Fairly clear appearance leads me to believe they reuse their barrels often. N- agave forward, hay, pepper, faint oak, nutmeg, and raisen T- caramelized agave, cinnamon, soft vanilla, baking spice, apple, faint citrus like orange/grapefruit MF- thin F- medium in length and semi sweet
Overall - "fresh" but more of a blanco profile. Aroma - opens w/ agave but only hint of vanilla. Flavor - slight taste of grapefruit + just tad of baking spices. Finish - a little warmth/heat but not much of anything else lingers.
On the nose I got coconut almost immediately which is pretty unusual in my experience. It’s there in the flavor as well with vanilla also prominent. Not a memorable finish but nothing bad about it. I’d definitely not turn this one down if offered!
Fair to middle of the road Reposado expression. Not a lot going on here. Some cooked agave, a little artificial sweetness detected. A little flat in the mid palate. Finish your s fair
Downgraded for me, and the more I drink it, the less I like it. Very light in color, the nose was vanilla cream, alcohol, mint, and some cooked agave. The taste is nothing special, and I feel it's overrated and gets more love than it really deserves. I feel there's something off with this profile. I wouldn't be looking to buy it again
Nice agave on the nose. Very easy to drink. I may be in the minority on liking this one but I think it's pretty enjoyable and easy to sip
Eye- very clear with little tint- slight straw color tint with nice legs that dissipates quickly Nose- agave forward with minerals, ripe pineapple and barrel notes such as vanilla Taste- very subtle and easy to drink. Agave sweetness is with slight barrel notes, minerality which is probably from the water source, mint such a spearmint with a little anise to balance it out. It ends with a vanilla and pepper staying on the tongue for a medium finish. Very sweet.
Vegetal, raw agave ..... no barrel or signs of aged flavor .... low key sipper and good for mixing
This is a very interesting tequila. Lots of vanilla cake batter on the nose, some ethanol when you get deep into the glass, some agave and vegetal notes. The flavor is very surprising, I thought it was going to be a vanilla cake bomb but the nose definitely doesn’t fully translate into the tasting. I get raw agave, a touch of vanilla and oak, it’s at a nice sweetness. Lingering is a very interesting spice note, reminiscent of cinnamon or baking spices. All in all, I’m very pleased with this, definitely a highly competent reposado. Something agave lovers can enjoy while also being something interesting to show to a non tequila drinker.
I expected not a lot, and it didn’t disappoint. Unlike others, I’m barely getting anything to identify in the nose. A hint of agave but also a slight funk and maybe an extremely slight touch of sweetness. Not getting any barrel notes. Mouth feel is weird. And the finish... Starts a bit harsh. No sweetness. Then a bit of heat. A blend of black pepper and cinnamon. It ramps up and then calms a bit for a long peppery finish. For cocktails maybe, but sipping, not so much.
Didn’t care for this . Unpleasant plastic/rubber aroma that does dissipate a bit but not totally. Bit of cinnamon as far as flavor but still got a bit of that rubber.... not much of a finish.
Fresh green agave flavours
La Gritona Reposado is distilled by Melly Cardenas at NOM 1533 in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. This repo is aged for 8 months and then bottled in a hand blown bottle made from recycled Mexican Coke bottles. The nose is great. It’s full of green vegetal agave, minerals and some slight white pepper. It’s nose is more blanco than reposado but I’m a blanco guy so I love it. I first taste fresh agave and pepper followed by bright citrus and then a pleasant medium finish. It’s a great tequila but it’s missing some of the usual reposado characteristics such as sweetness and slight oak. I’m okay with that. Overall this is a great tequila. ¡Salud!
Nice aroma with agave and oak upfront along with a bit of floral and mint following. Thin, watery mouthfeel with strong cinnamon flavor. Finish is medium-long. This is a nice, easy sipping reposado. No complexity in the flavor - pretty much one-note. One other thing, this one has a unique bottle. Glass bottle shaped like a canteen with raised glass lettering and a flip-top/swing-top stopper. 03-02-2018
Nose brings warm, musty earth and some slight herbal notes. In the mouth this has a nice natural sweetness that fades to just a hint of bitter from the barrel tannins. Very nice. Rating from 2024 AF Reposado 2024 blind.
Plastic bottle on the nose almost masks the cinnamon. Let it rest and the plastic starts to fade and agave, light floral, and sweetness come through. I happen to like natural sweetness in Tequilas and I enjoy the finish it has some spice in it.
There's a plastic like aroma thing that's throwing me off. Slight cinnamon but the plastic smell spoils that. Pine in the aroma too. After a while, when it opens up, the aroma turns to a very strong sour cheese thing. Flavor is also too sweet for me.
Slight defect- plastic smelling, and a rough finish. Updated rating 2023.
Aroma: funky, citrus, grass Taste: herbal, grass Finish : peppery and herbal and smooth
Recommended by Javier at El Agave on 3-18-23. Good flavors and finish, but not quite as smooth as I like. Drinkable & mostly enjoyable, but I would not consistently reach for it in the cabinet.
One of the better reposado’s at this price point. On the nose you get a peppery, caramel scent. On the palate there’s a nice vegetal flavor with light vanilla/caramel with a pepper oak finish. I like to drop a slice of orange in the bottom my glass with a few rocks. Definitely worth picking up.
Oak and cherry on the nose with notes of agave and white pepper. Vanilla on the palate with butterscotch and some grassy/vegetal flavors in the mix. A little agave as well, but the other flavors stand out more. Not much of a bite. A decent sipper made better with the price point. I’m curious to see how it’ll taste in a cocktail.
Pepper on the front in and carnal
Nose: earthy and herbaceous with notes of pine and maple Palate: pleasing blend of cooked agave, mineral and wintergreen flavors Finish: smooth and soft La Gritona is a solid reposado that works well as a sipper or a mixer. Makes a very enjoyable margarita.

Blind- Very light color with an aroma that is earthy and vegetal. I get a hint of wet rock and some minerality. Taste: vegetal, herbal, grassy, with a short-medium finish.
