Sweet but delicious. Caramel, vanilla, soft agave, soft alcohol. Worth the price? Maybe.

Lovely sipping tequila. Hints of leather and tobacco, not overly oaked.

Aroma: It's very light and mellow to start with subtle hints of oak, cherry and is also slightly floral. But, as it opens up it gets much stronger and has a heavy butterscotch aroma with a slight coffee undertone. Flavor: Again, like the initial aroma it is very light. I get a slight hint of oak but the butterscotch definitely stands out as the most prominent flavor. It's very interesting. Usually XA's are a little too barrel heavy for my taste but this is so light and not overpowering at all.

Practically no oak in the aroma and clear notes of cherry, almond and flowers followed by mild butterscotch. The butterscotch and oak become more pronounced with some time in the glass. Nice opening spice flavor tamed by sweet butterscotch. Nice, long finish that lingers in the mouth. Much fuller and richer than the Crotalo. More of a "traditional" XA. UPDATED on 7/6 in side by side tasting with Crotalo Gran Reserva, Tears of Llorona and re-tasting of Diablito.

Aged 3 years in bourbon barrels. Smelling notes of caramel and a general sweetness. Tasting notes of roasted agave, soft vanilla and baking spices

Bottle: Batch 033, Cask E 026, Bottle No. 7 Appearance: Medium amber Nose: Vanilla, roasted agave, caramel, oak, slight alcohol…heavy barrel influence, but very pleasant aroma Palate: Oak, vanilla, butterscotch right away, followed by black pepper, roasted agave, and a little astringency; good flavor that’s very consistent with the nose Finish: Oak, alcohol; fleeting and gone before I knew it Overall: A good tequila that borders on great. The barrel influence is heavy. Although not as complex as some other extra anejos, this tequila reminds me of some aged rums and bourbons in my collection. Definitely worth a try.

Tastes, finishes, and even smells, very refined. That’s my biggest take away. Time, and consideration have been put into this one. For me, there aren’t any striking characteristics or personality, but at the same time this tequila will get along with anybody palate, anyones, that’s a huge credit to its craftsmanship. It ain’t anybody that’s going to lead the conversation but is going to listen to the everyone. Nominated for best supporting role if you will.

Avion Reserva 44 is an XA that is heavily influenced by the Whiskey barrel. Smooth, silky, creamy and a trace of heat. Less cooked agave than I would have preferred, but very nice. On the nose, caramel, vanilla and a touch of alcohol. On the palate, caramel, vanilla, whiskied oak, pepper, with under tones of dried cherries, cocoa, leather.

While this a a very good tasting Xtra Anejo, I’m feeling there are others that are just as good or better for same price. Don’t think I would buy again though but a good experience. Price: $109.99 + $3.50shipping

My cuñadas and I did the tats te taste for Avión 44. I’ve heard nothing but positive feedback about this tequila. We tasted it. Between all the three of us we thought it was a great tequila and on the sweeter & smoother side of the tequila spectrum. It’s a small pepper sting upfront and goes down super smooth. We tasted honey, cinnamon, and vanilla with some bites of citrus. The scent has a typical smoke, wood and oak. We gave it an 84. I paid $170 for it. I believe where I got it was over priced. Enjoy.

A bit grassy on the nose (previously opened 6mo. Prior). Vanilla/caramel up front w/ definite heat on the back end. Very smooth at start w/ spicy finish. Lingering flavors of agave & vanilla honey draw back in for another sip. All holds up on next big taste & Oak is pronounced. Fans of 18yr Highland Scotch will love this. Beautiful bottle & presentation. Not important to flavor, but when shelling out serious $, it’s nice to have a classy representation atop the bar. Draws the curious in.
