There are only 2 Mixtos I’d recommend, this one and El Tequileño. This was a brand that was already being made when Enrique bought the distillery so they kept it in production. No additives and tastes better than many 100% agave mass produced tequilas.

Smells like caramelized sugar and vanilla. A bit flat for taste, perhaps the aroma was just overpowering. I really don’t get a lot of oak influence but it also loses a lot of the agave personality from the Blanco. It’s ok.

A 70/30 mixto from pedigreed La Tequileña. $165 pesos per liter. Nose: A faint floral note greets, with cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and vanilla following up. A touch of minerals and an uncomplicated oak note. Flavor: Fruity agave. Round vanilla and mellow barrel spices. White pepper punch and a floral/perfume like flavor. Decent mouth feel. Finish doesn’t bring out any new surprises, but overall, a well crafted mixto.

Mexican 35% abv., 985ml. volume version, no lot codes, marbete is from 2002, tasted on 4-25-24. Color: almost transparent like a blanco. Aroma: raw agave, intense mineral or light metallic aroma, hint of green vegetal note, alcohol sensation is medium despite low abv. Palate: confirms aromas perceived, alcohol sensation is medium to medium high on the palate, ends slightly bitter. Finish is short, light raw agave, hint of green vegetal note, minerality and light bitter taste persists but not too long.
