1500 Tastings June 26 2022 NOM 1500 CÓDIGO EXPRESSIONS ANEJO Lote L024ANE40 NOSE Brown sugar caramel oak TASTE Brown sugar caramel oak, vanilla a little dried fruit FINISH as like the other expressions, the finish is short and subtle but with a nice heat that fades off but lasts a bit longer with the anejo than with the other expressions. _________________________ OTHER We got these Códigos when they first introduced em. I wanna say 2016/17?!? Bottles have been open for awhile with about 1/4 left in each so may have affected the aroma and taste ??? I'm unsure of the production methods of these NOM 1500 codigo expressions. TMM lists the new NOM 1616 production methods. I have read that the anejo was aged 18 mos in French oak cab barrels? OVERALL, I can see how people would enjoy these Código 1500 tequilas. Easy sippers. Just a little pricey for what it is

NOM 1616 | Caramel, oak, leather, butterscotch, and that common earthy oaky orange funk that underlies all the Codigo for me—but more muted here.

NOM 1500 | Notes: lacks agave aroma/flavor Plum/prune/cherry & sherry are notable along with honey, maple, molasses and oaky essence. Skeptical about additives since it leaves a fake/aspartame feel. Different Añejo, liked the profile of using wine/sherry casks (similar to Casa Noble XA)

NOM 1500 | I enjoyed this, really reminded me of a bourbon. It’s too expensive for what it is but I thought this was good.

NOM 1500 | Aroma: Butterscotch, vanilla, and caramel. Taste: Smooth, silky butterscotch taste. The taste of the cooked agave mixed with the butterscotch is present throughout. Finish: Smooth all the way through, a slight agave alcohol bite that reminds you you’re drinking tequila. Overall: My favorite añejo so far.

NOM 1500 | I find the George Strait Anejo (using select barrels) to show much better on the nose and finish. This Anejo is light, showing good cooked agave and barrel flavors.

NOM 1500 | Wow, this completely caught me off guard, this brand actually gets more agave forward as we progress down the aged expressions. This tequila is elite, I’d happily pour this for anyone and wait to see the smile erupt.

NOM 1500 | This was a fantastic anejo but the price brought it's score down. Dry, not overly sweet and packed with agave, vanilla, oak, caramel, and surprisingly a touch of citrus. Great product but I can find lots of great anejo for under $100.

NOM 1500 | Aroma and flavors of vanilla, brown sugar. agave and baking spices. This is an interesting and pricey añejo with a strong finish.

NOM 1500 | You can definitely smell the influence of the French oak Cabernet in the aroma. Initially there was very little of the aromas associated with an anejo, such as the caramels or vanilla. The flavor has some bitterness at the mid and back palate but after that the finish was very good. Using an aerator really opened up the tequila and the bitterness almost entirely went away.

NOM 1500 | Very complex aromas that continues to reveal more layers over time. Initially, strong fruit and floral aromas jump out (almost similar to Paradiso). After a few minutes, vanilla and earth/clay aromas show up. The flavor is a nice sweet/heat combination with dried fruit, caramel and vanilla in the mix. A moderate heat carries into the relatively short finish. 12/30/2016 - 4th Annual Xmas XA tasting.

NOM 1500 | Aroma: Very complex. At the start, I get a lot of sweet notes like vanilla and berries. But, after a little bit of rest I start to get heavy notes like oak and leather. Each time it's a different combination of aroma. Flavor: Prominent flavor of oak with hints of caramel and vanilla. Slightly bitter but very nice and balanced. Finish: Nice and strong in comparison to the Blanco. It hangs around for a while and is not overpowering.

Nose: floral and perfume like, musty, wood, light agave, orange peel, tobacco, oak, vanilla, caramel, alcohol, butter, custard, whiskey, cinnamon, clove Palate: vanilla, oak, caramel, butter scotch, pepper l, alcohol, butter, creamy, whiskey, clove, anise light, Spicy and hot finish, floral and leather with clove long lasting wood taste, light brine. Lost of clove in the aftertaste with wood So after trying the blanco, and Rosa this is one my favorite one perhaps because it’s less briny although it’s still present but not as the other two not bad. Price wise I thinks it’s overpriced better añejo options out there to try for the price but I would say better than blanco and Rosa.

I'm not generally a fan of Anjeos due to the closeness to bourbon/whiskey. But I am enjoying this on ice. It has a nice caramel/butterscotch scent on the nose. Unfortunately I don't really don't taste those flavors. Still has the flavors of bourbon, but not overpowering.

NOM 1616 | A very easy and pleasant anejo by far. The aroma is distinct with caramel, whiskey, honey, barrel spice, oak and one of the most faintest and near enjoyable ethyl aromas I’ve come across. The taste was full with cooked agave, warm orange, barrel spice, oak, faint brine, light and airy ethyl. Flavors break away from the heat of alcohol and coats the tongue to reveal raisin, cherries, banana, whiskey and mintyness. The finish was slight smokey oak, fresh minerality, with tropical notes and slight peperiness in the back of the throat. This drink will always be welcomed in my company.

One thing I will say is that Codigo has distinction in its differing expressions. The anejo was slight on the nose with a touch of sweet wood. On the palate there was no burn, just smooth and delicious. If you like aged and smooth, this would pair well with a nice cigar by the water to relax. Price is always noted, but I would say there are some like this that might be worth it to treat yourself or gift to a friend.

Well balanced with smooth finish. Highlight here is the influence of the aged barrels. Love this tequila. Unique without being gimmicky.

I add this 1/3 to 2/3 good repasado in a Caddilac Margarita. Just amazing the results. Happy Tequila.
