10/2022 we purchased a few bottles of this several yrs ago but I didn't rate it until now. loved it. one of my top favorite repos ever. tho, I learned it's a blend of repo and XA. wish I still had some left
Simply put, a Suro masterpiece. Blended to perfection. Much better and more complex than many legit XAs. Agave punch, dried fruit, berries, citrus, etc. such a great treat! Treasure bottle!
This is actually for a 12th Anni. Blend.
I’m picking up oak, barrel spices, cherry, and caramel. The cherry makes this one stand out.
Although it's under-classified to be bottled as Reposado, this one is a blend of lots of Añejos and lots of XA. As per Mr. Suro it's meant to be a present for Siembra aficionados for the brand 10th anniversary. On the nose it begins with sweet candied cherries and opens up to caramel notes, some oak, leather, alcohol spiciness and a consistent underlying cooked agave presence. Very nice! These aspects are reflected on the palate almost symmetrically. It enters smooth on the front palate with cherry and caramel notes and then oak with just the right delicate sweetness from the oak aging (no bs augmentations here for sure!). It then proceeds with a burst of alcohol spice which is fun for the first part, but then a little astringent and unbalanced (this last aspect is IMHO what prevents this juice to be as excellent as it could have been). It then finishes with an intense cooked agave note that lingers for a while, what a joy! I'm particularly partial to Mr. Vivanco's tequilas (NOM 1414) and this one withstands my expectations with flying colors!
Intense oak nose and flavor from the XA blend. Leather and caramel notes. Pleasant - the less aged product gives it a brightness XAs don't normally have.
This could easily be compared to another blended product, the Don Lorenzo reposado. That would be a mistake though as the two have little in common other than the fact they are both made from a blend of reposado and extra anejo tequilas. The DL is 65% reposado and 35% extra anejo, however I am not sure of the Suro proportions. It would seem to be a higher percentage of XA as evidenced by the darker color and the lack of sweetness and drier finish. Regardless this is a very worthy reposado in the Siembra family and is very deserving of a place in your collection.
Aroma of orange peel, cinnamon, and agave. Taste is smooth with agave and orange peel that transitions into a finish of wood and cinnamon that is pretty smooth.
creamy
Awesome tequila. Full of sweetness, smoothness, and earthiness with notes of vanilla, caramel, agave, fruit, and pepper. David Suro pulled a Jon Glaser Compass Box 3 year deluxe
Do not try to make bourbon out of agave. That’s what corn is for. What a waste of good agave. If I were rating bourbons this would get a better score but I am rating tequila.
This is an 80% 5-year XA / 20% 1.5-year anejo blend, sold as a reposado in name and price. This is, according to David Suro, a gift to the tequila community and a well-intentioned poke at tequila regulation. Oak, wood-spice, caramel, and oddly enough, cherry on both the nose and palate. There is a pleasant alcohol bite and a very pleasant mouth feel- lush with a somewhat dry finish. My only complaints are that for me, the agave gets lost in the wood (could almost be cognac), and there is some mild astringency. Nevertheless, I feel this is an awesome bottle to have in the collection.
Rocinante smelled oak and caramel right away. Quixote got early summer dill, go figure. Friston, our magician guest for the day, got the cherry and floral. Anyway, we got to taste both the Don LorenZo reserva and this Siempre Azul in the same hour. Both are repo plus other blends. Don Lorenzo tasted like a suspicious reposado. Suro can't pass as a reposado even if it were at Mar del Lago. It is oak and swirling acrylic paints at some big Los Angeles art collective. The finish is classic anejo. I feel the Cervantes collective would have looked at this differently if it didn't undersell itself.
A nice change from most reposado's on the market. Great cherry and oak aroma with very smooth finish. Highly recommend if you are looking for something different. Also good choice for a whiskey drinker trying out tequila.
Really nice nose with cherry, oak, clove, caramel Flavor has Lots of oak with hint of cherry and sweetness.Light body with very clean finish Great tequila at a very reasonable price.

All barrel on nose and palate, no agave here.
