Old black top Cabrito. This was better than I remember. Hard to find now. Tons of agave with melon, bubble yum, citrus, etc. Fantastic blanco at a cheap price! if you find the older black top blancos, grab them all!
Tasted during a blind tasting. I was blown away at how good this was for $23 & it’s a 1L bottle. On the nose I pick up agave, black pepper, & slight vegetal / earth nose. The taste matches the nose but is more present with black pepper which I personally really enjoy. It coats the mouth very well & has tons of tears on glass.
cooked agave and hint of fennel, earth and cinnamon on the aroma. flavor carries the cooked agave over and the dull fennel with cinnamon and some cucumber notes. pepper is definitely there and earthiness too. for the price, a solid mixer. will hold up in any cocktail, and honestly could sip of you want a rustic tequila. very good value
I tasted the 2004 black top version. I’ll tell you what this is a very underrated tequila. So much agave and fruity notes. I’m glad I purchased this and at 23$ a bottle this stuff is a great
Old school, agave forward pepper bomb!! I love this style! Makes a really great margarita and I could sip on this all night as is.
Great in cocktails or straight up. Nice agave flavor, a little rough on the finish but in a good way. One of the best value tequilas around… if you can find it.
Purchased due to nostalgia. A simple margarita that I really enjoyed called the Village Goat up in Ithaca was based on this. Had that drink about a decade ago and had been keeping an eye out for this ever since. Other reviews mention a NOM change and a black top, so that may be why I remember it more fondly than I am experiencing now with a special ordered silver-top 1L bottle :/
Aroma is fruity and floral. Flavor is peppery and strong, but smooth. The finish is pretty weak.
Hot agave nose, lemon citrus finish
Some similarities to Don Julio Blanco; smooth, not complex. Hardly any alcohol on nose and palate. Decent viscosity can immediately be felt in the mouth and seen by the legs on the glass. Tried in a traditional Paloma and the flavours fell flat. Might work better with a cocktail with less volume or sugar.
On the nose I get lots of cracked black pepper, some alcohol, cinnamon, and mild agave. The pepper has the strongest presence out of all of these throughout the palate and finish. Not the most well-balanced flavor profile, but a viscous mouthfeel with lots of tears on the glass. I like this tequila, but the agave presence is just too weak for me to consider it great. Its value is near unbeatable, though - I got a full liter for $20 (cheaper than Cimarron in my area). I have no issues mixing with this, but I can get the repo for the same price and it’s much better in my opinion.
Perfect for palomas and cantaritos. Don’t sleep on this
Wow, surprised at how good it is for the price. It smells & tastes of minerals and cooked agave . Very drinkable & mixable. Commonly drank all over México !
Nasty, nasty, nasty. I bought this Tequila because of its good rating and how it was cooked in a stone/brick oven. The great pice at $17.99 and it seemed like a winner until I opened the bottle. The smell of alcohol takes over the aroma. The tastes of alcohol does the same thing. Think Tequila everclear... Doesn’t even make a good Margarita!
The agave is so forward if tequila was a military it would have to do pushups for not staying in formation.
I really enjoyed this. A fantastic value. A basic but solid blanco. Peppery with agave. There is an aroma/flavour that I cannot identify that I think some are calling plastic but I would not identify as plastic but it is very distinctive. I would almost describe it as charcoal. Very decent lasting finish. A good sipper. Very good value. Buttery aroma and flavour.
Great bargain. I found this in Hawaii, of all places. Slightly antiseptic but still oak, agave and cinnamon. In the finish, a slight plastic taste is noticed. Not totally bad.
There’s a delightful little fiery crackle on the hindmost end of this mischievous little sprite! All in all it’s ok - it’s not knocking my pants off, putting me in a headlock and force-feeding me quince sorbet, but then it’s not the thin, feeble desert drippings that the label seems to suggest. I don’t much care for the finish.
Chocolaty, great mouth feel, agave forward. Great value!!!
Just re-rated this and just impressed. As a value tequila it represents agave so well all the way through. Very well balanced value brands around.
Great product for the price
It's an ok Tequila for the price. Lacks some agave flavor. There are others better, but not at this price.
In this list we’ve included a few of the cheaper, more readily available tequilas to help set you on your way, along with a few more expensive treats for the experienced agave drinker.

From 2008 Notes of spearmint, herbal, mint, fresh, crisp, raw agave but still tasted way better than some current comparable profiles
