Tasted at Sip Tequila Fest Although it paled in comparison to Atanasio’s Orígenes high proof release, I still enjoyed their base blanco. Subtle vegetal notes, along with cooked agave black pepper and Atanasio’s trademark funk. That being said, the asking price is a bit high.

Nose: agave raw / vegetal / olive / pepper/ lime / lemongrass / hint of floral / salt Taste: sweet agave cooked / anise bomb! / vanilla/ banana/ cinnamon/ melon/ lime / spearmint/ baking spice Finish: watery wet low viscosity mouthfeel with a cool water effect / lingering sweet agave and anise overwhelm the spicier cinnamon and pepper notes / spearmint final taste to the last swallow This blanco has a slightly weak nose but the flavors really pop out. So much agave and anise working hard to make this a sweet and refreshing blanco that’ll be good for sipping or cocktails. Very nice.

It's kind of funky. Agave and Asaparagus, It's vegetal, it's salty, it's buttery cooked agave and mint on the finish. This was a decent tequila, but in my opinion, it wanted to be more complex than it was. I found myself looking for depth that just wasn't there.

Small batch tequila from a family owned distillery in Amatitan. Autoclave cooking double fermentation leaves slight malolactic aromas and flavors. Strong agave presence and black pepper finish.

Batch BE001. A little too much lactic funk with Cheez-It cracker and cooked agave aroma. I mentioned the batch number because the reviews vary widely. UPDATE: Recent releases do not have this significant malolactic profile.

A – Umm, I don’t find this to be welcoming at all. A cheesy funk (not in a good way). I did pick up agave, dill, and yeast, but couldn’t wade through the funk to identify much else. No likey. T – 80% of taste comes from smell….so, not great. I did get some anise, corn, mushroom, agave, and yeast. F – All lactic finish that wasn’t enjoyable for me Overall – This lot is thumbs down for me, but I respect the brand too much to turn my back. I will try other lots

I had this in a blind tasting and was hands down the worst of the bunch. It was also one of the worst I've ever tasted. I want to be honest. Sorry. I even revisited it to make sure. N- squash, overripe melon, banana, stewed tomatoes, nutmeg, Cheetos? T- caramelized agave, honey, roasted squash, cantaloupe, stewed peppers MF- thin F- short and sweet thank god

Blind: Powerful aroma of cheese, dough, and bubble gum hits you. Some agave shows up on the flavors, but there’s a slight plastic note. It has a pleasant thick mouthfeel but a lingering aftertaste. Honestly I feel bad about the low rating for a quality brand like this, but this profile just a doesn’t hit the right notes for me. I’ll have to revisit another batch and see if it’s less lactic and more my style. Revisited: a new batch and a new review. Enjoyed much more this time. I’d give this an 86 on its own but don’t want to discount my lower blind rating, so scoring somewhere in between for now.

Aroma: cheese! With hints of agave. Definitely more cheese forward Taste: cheese, agave, rose petals This is so weird. It tastes and smells like cheesy agave! Finish: warm finish. Oily mouthfeel I have not had this before but i was told about this one at tahona mercado! I cant remember what it was. Atanasio?? I dont know how they do this. Maybe something special with fermentation? Not my every day thing but very fun. I will drink again and have as a party favor!

Very refreshing light and fruity but with a funkinesses… baked agave

Wow. The funky malolactic cheese smell with ripe bananas definitely drew me in. The taste is incredible ripe banana and yeast almost like a slight banana pancake, mint, vanilla, fruit , earthiness and pepper. Could definitely be an everyday supper

I love the blanco and the flavor explosion. It has an amazing cheesy and briny nose that just melts into the flavor profile. An overall viscous mouthful with heavy cooked agave and brine. It is pricy but I believe it’s worth every penny. It’s a great sipping blanco. I picture this with a nice charcuterie board. It would pair perfectly.

Very surprised by this one. Wow. Really good. Aroma has agave grande! Taste is good with agave and pepper with some minerality and even mild sweetness. Finish is good and long lasting. This was the mex 38%

Aroma has a strong “funk” of mushroom and/or stinky cheese along with some cooked agave underneath. The aroma is almost similar to some Syrah wines but with cooked agave. Mushroom aroma follows into the flavor which also includes a peppery spice and maybe a bit of mint. Finish is short. I can’t find too much to like with this one. And, at $65 this seems way overpriced. Not for me. March tequila tasting - blancos, 03-24-2022

Nose is agave up front then fruit, prune, latex scents. Opens up fast and changes to tobacco and leather notes within 10 minutes of 1st opening pour. Becomes more floral. Taste is a good balance of agave, mint, pepper, pear.

From blind tasting; Agave bomb! I visualize standing in front of a brick oven as the agave cooks..steam vents through the door crevices..giving off the sweet cooked agave aroma.

This is fine as a sipper but it's not overly complex and not as refined as some of the better blancos particularly in this price range.

I love this brand, and taste rate this blanco an 89. Often, they have malolactic fermentation giving off cheesy notes which I love. Recently though, I was involved in a blind tasting here on TMM, and I do not know the batch number. Only that batch, had a little too much malolactic notes for me, and only rate that one 80. This brand makes great tequila Reevaluated down, since my video review. Some recent batches are way too malolactic, otherwise I always loved the brand.

@38, Snappy on the nose. Sweet, licorice, but heat prevails. Warm, sweet mid palate but agave itself doesn’t prevail. Spike before the finish. Would drink again but loses a bit of points in value.

A little peppery, a nice lean blanco. Good choice

Excellent nose of cooked agave, earth and minerals, vegetal and then lighter notes of citrus and orange peel, green apple and then a hint of roses and cinnamon. It’s a complex nose. It’s oily. The legs and tears stick to the glass. I taste agave first and then lime and then some white pepper up front that transitions to black pepper. There is a hint of smoke. The taste lingers and the finish is nice and long. This is a quality tequila and it’s the most exciting new blanco I’ve tried since Volans. It’s new to the US market but it’s worth hunting down. Salud.

Nose is roast agave, in the mouth this has some nice viscosity and some earth mixed with the agave sweetness. Finish is nice with a small amount of ethanol and some fading agave sweetness.

Nose: Up front, robust ripe agave. TMM says this is made with a high pressure autoclave. But the aroma reminds me more of low pressure and slow cooked high Brix agaves. There is light spice, cinnamon, and soft vanilla notes. Subtle cooked artichoke and green banana scents. A bit of citrus. A slight sulfur note. Flavor: The agave flavors parallel the aromas. There is a warming pepper and cinnamon presence that plays well with the vanilla cream and almond paste suggestions. A cooked vegetal touch in the mix. Great balance and mouth feel. Finish: It does not evolve a whole lot on the finish, a tiny bit of smokiness and anise show up. It is a very pleasant sipper that I could envision drinking for an entire evening. July 14, 2023 I had an opportunity to recently taste the 40% ABV Atanasio. I am upwardly revising my previous rating from my experience with the 38% Mexican release from several years ago.

Cooked agave, fruit, and a tiny bit of vanilla in the aroma. More cooked agave in the flavor. Has a nice natural mouth feel. Finish is short. This is not a super complex tequila, but it is quite good.
