I had the vaunted experience of enjoying this with Tony Salles: The aroma immediately enthralled me with warm notes of sugary oatmeal, caramel, butterscotch, soft honey, delicious and distinct banana, cinnamon, fresh almonds, maple toffee, and a rosted nuttiness that beautifully complemented the oatmeal essence, alongside lightly toasted bread. As I indulged, the taste mirrored the aroma with remarkable accuracy, and an added hint of sweet fruitiness that remained elusive but delightful. The overall experience was deliciously gourmand—it is a bottle I’m compelled to add to my collection before it's gone.
Outstanding Reposado(XA), deep barrel characteristics that didn’t overpower the base spirit. So many delicious notes packed within this offering from El Tequileño. Cooked agave, cinnamon, honey, pepper, vanilla, dried fruit, and caramel. I far & away prefer this offering to their standard Reposado.
Nose: Agave, Butterscotch, Leather, Cedar, Oak, Carmel and Chamomile Mouthfeel: Light to Medium- Bodied Palate: Black Pepper, Citrus, Carmel, Chamomile Finish: Citrus, Carmel, Floral and again some chamomile. Such a complex reposado that is enjoyed much like an extra anejo in some ways with the benefit of having milder barrell notes. Sweet carmel and butrerscotch all the way through with lots of complimentary citrus and floral notes as well.
Upgraded here, since my video review. This stuff is off the hook amazing
Not my cup of tea.
this tequila is very good. price brought my rating down.
Tasted at San Diego Tequila and Cuisine event
I didn't love it. I love the history and story but I'm more happy sipping the regular Reposado. Soft on the nose and palate with minimal barrel notes coming through. Little bit of sweetness on the finish
Wow! The barrel does not overwhelm the tequila. But imparts such smoothness and flavors that enhances the regular Blanco.
Starts with a complex and beautiful medley of dried fruits, in particular figs, apricots, mangos, and banana, as well as cooked agave. The flavor is light caramel coupled with honey, with continuing notes of dried fruit and agave. On the finish, a delicious burst of agave and dried fruit, with vanilla and cinnamon. An elite class tequila.
Wow! A delicious pour. Sweet, chocolate, coffee flavor is what I get. But the finish is all agave. It’s so good.
Otherworldly flavor on first impression. I will have to dive deeper to determine what I'm tasting. I've never experienced it before.
The smell reminds me of something good baking in the oven - like a pie. I get vanilla, sweet agave, and some spice. Very nice balance of agave, sweet citrus, a little oak, and a slowly increasing and fading heat through the finish. This is a really nice sipper! I paid $174.99, so the cost hurt my value rating ever so slightly, but I’m not disappointed at all.
Medium amber color in the glass with nice oily legs. Aroma of agave, oak and vanilla. Flavor of oak, agave and honey. Mellow, long finish must come from aging for 6 years. Pretty pricy, but a rare sipper.
Definitely sweater than the anjeo. Barrel oak, slight caramel, agave, and fruit (like wine).
Agave, Apple, honey, vanilla, oak. Great legs. No additives. 6 years in massive oak tank so large it can’t legally be called an extra añejo, and also imparts less oak than other XAs. This one is lighter in color than their Añejos but aged much longer.
Aroma: I get dried fruit and citrus- orange and lemon off the bat. A pop of melon that quickly fades behind vanilla, butterscotch, oak and cooked agave. Flavor: I get orange and stewed fruit. I get a nice bite of alcohol that gives a nice heat and tingle. Oak. Cooked and fresh agave toward the back end and a little brighter fruit flavor. Candied orange and lemon. There’s a hint of smoke. I don’t get the same baking spice that I got in the aroma. Finish: nice. Citrusy and tangy. Leave a little tingle and numbness. It’s got a bit of bitterness on the back end and through the finish. Overall: amazing. I get a little something different every time I drink it. Lots of layers and complexity. I sill pick up agave despite its 5 yrs in a barrel. It’s fruity and tangy and citrusy, which I really like as opposed to leaning toward more whiskey flavors. Savor it. This is a really great expression.
Excellent "Reposado". By all intents and purposes, this being aged for 6 years as an XA in giant barrels aka pipones. it retains lots of agave then takes off from there. Citrus, figs, candy apple, cinnamon, pear, minerals, maybe even some lavender? Very floral. Interesting... A bit pricey. but I grabbed it for 89 with a quickie subscription to a service when it was 1st released as several of us did. Great score !
Pumpkin/gourd/mineral aroma. Earthy. Taste of peppery mint, agave, and light oak. The burn that the Blanco has is tamed and subdued perfectly by the pipones. Best suited for me as a fall sipper but this, my first bottle, won't make it past June. After a day or so it opens up beautifully and maple starts to peek through and joins the medley. I want to shout about it to friends but then I know if I do, they'll want to try it and I'm not sharing this one. :o)
This Reposado is truly rare. It’s aged for 6 years but can’t be called an XA because it was aged in a vessel larger than 600 liters. The age shows in the mellowing and complexity of the spirit. I smell cooked agave and caramel, natural vanilla, dark fruits and hints of floral notes. I taste the sweet cooked agave and butterscotch. Hints of pepper and spice. The finish is nice and long. I love this tequila and I’m appreciative of companies willing to experiment and create unique rare tequilas. It ain’t cheap but it’s worth it! Salud Amigos!
Nose: Soft spicing wrapped around silky agave aromas. Cocoa, vanilla, and leather. A hint of spearmint. Some dough like notes. Trace cedar scent and a touch of sweet cider on the nose. Multifaceted nose. Flavors: A slight perfume/floral note accompanies the subtle fruitiness. Subdued spice and pepper heat. The vanilla and leather carry through from the aroma. Tasting this is more like a series of sensations, rather than the normal attempt at identifying individual elements. You ride pillowy clouds from one layer of impressions, that transitions to another layer of sensations, that seamlessly blends into the next... Finishes with all the finesses of a finely tuned symphony of strings and woodwinds. But sometimes I enjoy the crash of cymbals and some drama.
This would be XA if it was aged in smaller barrels, fresh cooked agave flavors with beautiful notes of caramel, vanilla, a little spice, smoother than smooth. Perfectly balanced. Hard pressed to find a better tasting tequila
This was presented by Clayton Sczcech of Experience Agave and Tony Salles of El Tequileño at a venue in Seattle. Aroma was amazing but the flavor and mouthfeel are what set this apart from most other reposados today. Aged for 6 years in a 25,000 L pipon this has such a rich taste I wonder why more don't commit to producing in this manner. Agave, oak but not excessive due to the minimal contact with wood in such a large vessel even after 6 years. Finish is spice and agave with minimal alcohol. Nice to have this in the USA.
Tons of agave off the nose, hard to believe this spent 6 years in oak! So light and smooth considering aging time and pedigree, it retains agave foundation but has some unexpected fresh fruit notes on the back end. The ending is fucking delightful, takes a long time to drift away and the agave comes back around to say goodbye. An excellent extra Añejo(Reposado)!

This is a great tequila for sure. Nose is wonderful with cooked agave, caramel, vanilla and oak. Honey is there as well as some butterscotch cherry and flowers. On the palate I get cooked agave, caramel, vanilla and oak. Definitely get the barrel but it is not overwhelming. I also get whiskey. I get a touch of fruitiness. The finish is good. I like this one and I do recommend it.
