NOM 1459. Mexican bottling at 38% Nose: Caramelized agave, a suggestion of canned applesauce laced with cinnamon, artichoke and light pepper. Flavor: The nose belies the punch that this tequila delivers in the mouth. Spicy black pepper with some bitterness, cinnamon and cloves and a sweet note I cannot pinpoint. I purchased this tequila thinking that it was from #1531. Santo Coyote has apparently moved back to #1459, where they now sport a fancy new bottle and a hefty price tag. Quite a disappointment.

From the same distillery as the excellent Don Modesto, this blanco delivers a big serving of roast agave and pepper to a balanced slightly sweet natural tasting blanco. Purchased at Old Town in Sept. 2018. US bottle @ 40% ABV.

NOM 1531, Mexican 40% abv. version stated on the bottle label but the QR on the marbete from year 2014 states 38% abv., lote: LTB09, bottled on 05-12-2017, tasted on 9-21-24. Aroma: cooked agave with a hint of anise-like sweetness, light acidity, hint of citrus, light aromatic green vegetal notes, earthy, hint of chili spiciness. After 20 minutes in the glass the cooked agave note becomes slightly sweet. Palate: confirms aromas perceived, good sweet sour and citrus balance, hint of cheese Dorito chip aroma through my retronasal. Although the aromas and flavor of this tequila is uncommon, it doesn’t feel cloying nor awkward. Finish is medium to medium long, light cooked agave with light green vegetal notes, hint of chili spiciness with light earthy notes persist.
