I’m reviewing the Reserva de Familia that I was served straight from the barrel at the distillery in Tequila Mexico. This was unfiltered and not proofed down. The nose is full of oak vanilla and brown sugar. I taste cooked agave and strong oak. That taste is sweet and smooth with medium finish. It has a light mouth feel. The price for the bottle in the USA hurt this score several points. I can purchase DJ 1942 for $30 less that the JC RdF XA. I’ll update this review once I open and sample the bottle I purchased.

Cheaper at the airport leaving Cancun. We bring back our 3 bottle limit every trip.

2014: Oak dominates. New oak woody nose as well as a charred oak presence. Whisky oak, spiciness and white pepper on the palate. Hints of creme soda. Wood and oak and amargo finish.

This is the best tasting and smoothest sipping tequila I’ve ever had.

Hints of spice, vanilla tones. Same sentiment on the front of the tongue, lingering toffee & butterscotch on the palette. I can recall in the last five years a retail at $99.00, at current retail of $125.00+, value has gone from great to good.

JC's best, none of the rest of their production measures-up nor compares to this one, not by production processes, nor by aroma and taste. There are many other brands/tequilas, as good or better for substantially less price point. And for this price point, I've found many others that I would much prefer to purchase, share and/or sip and enjoy.

Above average but not worth the price. Handful of better tequilas in the same price range. Smokey Oak taste with cinnamon, vanilla, and spice.

Nose and aftertaste most desired. Earthy flavor one of the best.

For a company that brought you Especial Gold (YUK) comes a family secret... and it's worth it! The body is rich with the taste of caramel with a smoky pepper finish. I have hooked this brand to my top Scotch drinker friends.

Unique extra añejo. Strong cinnamon and oak in the nose, thin to medium body, strong oak on palate. Worthy extra añejo if found at $100

This is what I feel a tequila should taste like. Strong start and smooth finish. One of my top favorites.

Tasted at Winter Drams event in Seattle in Jan 2017. Pleasant nose - mostly oak, caramel and slightly vegetal. Flavor of over-burned sugar - unpleasant after taste. Did not want to finish the dram.

Excellent balance on the nose and palate. Great drink by Jose. Heavy vanilla, carmel, baking spice and oak on the nose. On palate, oily, balanced, vanilla, oak and spice. Would have rated higher, however, I found it to be a little hot. But excellent served neat.
