As I look for something different tasting with this over saturated market rosas have slowly started taking my heart. I got to taste this at Monterey and man this stuff was beyond incredible. The way it evolves in between notes of cooked agave and tequila into notes of red wine and grape then back to tequila is honestly amazing too me.

JDL Tequila Rosa Blanco is rested for 1 month in un-charred French oak barrels from Napa that previously held Cabernet Sauvignon wine. It’s light pink crystal clear hue comes from the stained barrels. When I nose this tequila the blanco notes hit first. There’s vegetal green agave notes along with hints of citrus and then some slightly acidic floral notes appear. This blanco has a vegetal agave beginning and then some sweet pepper notes arrive. The pepper notes are coming from the base blanco while the sweetness is most likely coming from the French oak. On the back end there is a floral tannic note courtesy of the Cab Sav influence. The finish is light on the palate but still lingers nicely. This expression is slightly feminine and while I’ll keep it as a sipper I’d love to see it in a cocktail served straight up. Salud!

Very well done Rosa Blanco, this is similar to the Codigo 1530. The wine cask and the French Oak combine to provide some natural barrel sweetness to the already good Blanco used as a base. This lacks the common astringincy that most wine cask finished products show on the back end.
