Exceedingly dark coloring for a Reposado. Nose: Caramel, vanilla and barrel spice, with a touch of pepper. Pronounced cinnamon and citrus. A suggestion of ripe dark fruit and a dusty earthy undercurrent. A very round and velvety aroma. Flavor: A pop of pepper upon entry. A nearly burned brown sugar agave sweetness melds with a buttery mouth sensation that joins the caramel, vanilla and nutty notes. There is a new oak taste that detracts slightly from the mellow flavor profile. Finish: A creamy, comforting, mellow sipping tequila - but no wow factor for me.

Very similar to the slightly earthier añejo, this Reposado has a stamp that dates it to 2003. Pleasant to sip this is a great example of tequila production from 15-20 years ago.

It's complex, but I feel like I can taste the donkeys and dust of the agave fields a LITTLE too much in this glass.

Mexican 38% abv. versión, lote: 01, marbete is from 2002, tasted on 10-13-23. This bottle un-opened had lost volume and I estimate that it did affect its quality negatively. Color: light yellow to yellow. Aroma: light sweet cooked agave, light black pepper, light mint, light resinous sweetness, light acidity, earthy, light stone fruit sweetness, it is quite complex but I estimate the evaporated alcohol/tequila lowered its aromatic and flavor intensity. Palate: confirms aromas perceived, good sweet sour and acidic balance, through retronasal aromas are quite subtle. Finish is medium, light sweet cooked agave and balanced sweet sour and acidic notes persist.

Tasted at the distillery itself in El Arenal, Jalisco. Props to the unique packaging.
