Have tried very few XA from NOM 1414, but his profile was very old school and tasty. Minor oaky presence, with notes apple, cider, baking spices, cooked agave is still prominent and everything is very harmonious

This grew on me as it sat in the glass for a bit and my palate adjusted to what I was tasting. Intial thoughts for a rating were at least 5 points lower distributed -2, -1, -2 for aroma, taste, finish. The XA category has changed significantly since this came to market back in the late 00s. Extra Añejo seems to have matured as a category and many brands don't follow what was once a cookie cutter approach of using a recently received barrel with lots of active char and aging for 3 years or more and then just bottling. This route was taken by many brands at the time and is mirrored in this product as well. Some natural sweetness as well as oak and caramel and after 10 minutes or so and a couple of small sips showed some agave layered with that pepper note from the Blanco. Unlike the Blanco this seems soft and a little watered down at 35%. NOM 1479

The barrel adds some spiciness to this XA. Aromas of caramel, vanilla and chocolate create a pleasant nose, with a somewhat sweet, spicy burst of mouth flavor.

I actually enjoyed the Añejo version of Don Weber more than this. It's a great value, for sure. The spicy finish is intensified from the additional contact with wood, and I'm sure this flavor profile will be popular with fans of bold spicy experiences. There is a bit too much wood here for my tastes. The añejo is where this line seems to peak, and given the choice I would stick with that.

Love this tequila. Perfect for non-stop sipping. Everyone I share this with after the first taste is all smiles. Just a very nice drink.

appearance : light hay color very light for an xa aroma : agave and caramel some oak notes taste : pepper oak with some agave in the background totally lost the agave and caramel on the nose finish : fairly quick finish aftertaste of oak awesome value for an xa but the younger versions especialy the blanco are better. Tastes better out of a shot glass than riedel tequila glass

Review #303 - Don Weber Tequila Extra Anejo

After being luke warm about the reposado, I'm ready to jump in and taste the extra anejo. Coming from NOM 1414 I'll admit that my expectations were high.
