I was hoping for more from this brand knowing where it came from. I will spend some more time with it but wasn’t blown away.

La Caza (The Hunt) is made at NOM1414 with estate grown agave. This 100% Agave Azul tequila is aged for 4 months is ex-bourbon barrels which gives it a nice light gold / dry hay color. The natural sweetness from the cooked agave is accompanied with dry barrel spices. The cooked agave provides a round and creamy scent while the barrel spices have hints of cloves, natural vanilla and dry barrels staves with a touch of bourbon. This is a flavorful Reposado. The barrel presence is forward but the cooked agave still punches through. I taste some cinnamon and caramel with some faint cloves and anise. The sweetness is first and then the spicy barrels notes quickly follow. The spirit is light on the palate but the flavors are dense. The agave is buttery and it has a very nice viscosity which helps the flavors to linger. There’s a nice peppery note that appears on the back end and continues into the finish. There’s a slightly nutty quality. It’s sweet and spicy. I enjoy sipping this neat but I’ve also had it in an Agave Old Fashioned and it held up nicely. It’s a sipper that can also hold its own in spirit forward cocktails. Salud!

Nose: fresh, raw agave, herbal, yeast Taste: alcohol on the top of the palate, light on the roasted agave, vanilla and pepper. Light finish. Made for bourbon drinkers.

Good color but perhaps too legs too long for a repo. Touch was a little sticky. Claims to be additive free but I’m not convinced. On the nose I get vanilla, yeast, oak and hint of agave. Flavor is peppery with oak and vanilla and long burn on the back end. At about $60 a bottle I give an average rating for value.

On the nose, fresh, nutty, floral, and mellow. Full flavor with hints of almond, agave, and banana and solid finish that does not evaporate off the tonque, with long legs. Definitely a great sipping tequila on the rocks. Would definitely recommend and will purchase again! For a tequila advertised as additive free, this one is a winner!

Initial Smell to me is like that of a low proof small batch Bourbon, it has a silky mouth feel that is like that of neat room temp bourbon as well. I feel that the aging in the used American oak barrels give it a very thick bourbon essence. It has a slightly spicy bourbon taste to it as well that I feel masks a little bit of the agave flavors but overall I enjoyed how smooth it was and how fast it disappears in your throat and mouth.

Amaretto almond and Hazelnut on the tasting notes very pronounced.
