This is just a superb agave distillate. If you like funk, this is for you. It has layers and layers of complexity so it is not something you can sip and be distracted, it demands your attention.

Nose: Faint oak, fruity and hard cider aromas marry to give a juicy fruit gum impression. Citrus zest and barrel spice provide another layer, as do the funky but aromatic mushroom compost and petrichor undercurrents. Flavor: Perhaps a tiny bit on the thin side. Finely ground black & green peppercorns and fiery cinnamon bring a heated pop, that gains momentum. The fruitiness and Chato agave are weaving between star players and background roles here. Hints of vanilla, anise, smoke and barnyard. I prefer the blancos in the Chato line by a smidge. But this is a strong contender too.

Well balanced between agave and barrel notes. It’s rare to have a reposado keep this degree of complexity and have the flavours come in waves.

Aroma - Cooked Agave, slight notes of Carmel and butterscotch, minerals, wet stone, subtle oak notes, cinnamon and baking spices. Flavor - creamy mouthfeel with notes of cooked agave, oak, unripe banana, cinnamon, black pepper and a slight peanut note on the finish. The finish was medium long and enjoyable. This is a treat, well rounded reposado that keeps the agave as the star of the show while incorporating the best parts of the barrel. I was impressed with the finish for a 40% abv product.

This is labeled as an agave spirit. I say it’s a great tequila. There is a lot going on with this tequila, the variety of more than just blue agave adds complexity, and I like it. Nice aroma, and for being a chato, this has a very classic flavor. Nice barrel spice, and all of the best flavors that the chato blanco had are hanging around too. The barrel treatment was perfect, this is a great repo. It’s a touch thin, that’s the only negative thing I can say about this one. It’s still really good. I will certainly try any other variety from this line that I can get my hands on

Aroma is vibrant with caramelized agave (tempted to call it maguey), citrus, with undertones of vanilla and black pepper. Sensational! Taste is off the chart great With a spicier version of their “tequila” with blue Weber. Some good heat in the mouth and more pepper. A little bitterness but does not detract from the experience. Finish is wonderful and long and evolves as it dissipates. Overall great if you can find it. Editorial: I am glad TMM includes the CC lineup that doesn’t use blue Weber. I have always thought of CC as living in the tequila world even if they don’t call it tequila. I have rated this on mezcal reviews.com but it just isn’t mezcal and does not compare well. Further exposition: this was the first distillery that we visited during our trip in December 2019. Imagine driving down into a jungle-like Grand Canyon. And then there is a really old distillery at the bottom. If you are planning a trip make this a for sure stop. Maybe Don Rosario will pause cutting the trees and hand you the keys to the distillery door and tell you to start without him. Experience of a lifetime! Lo siento for the loco long review. I have some passion for this one.
