Aromas of straw, cooked agave, vanilla and cedar. Flavor of sweetness up front that segues into cooked brown sugar, light oak, and cooked agave. A pretty good expression of a reposado balancing the wood just right.

Picking up pronounced banana on the flavor profile.

Ethanol on the nose right away with cooked agave coming in with oak at the end. Beautiful tears and viscosity line on the glass. This bottle has been open a month or so at this time and it has really benefited it....nice agave with ethanol burn, hint of baking spices, with a pleasant burn on a medium finish.

Agave, caramel and baking spices on the nose, very enjoyable. Light to medium body, I get subtle agave notes, light oak, vanilla, cinnamon and pepper on the end. It’s a little thin, finish is brief leaving a nice heat on the back of the throat. Nice repo, ultimately falls a little short of the standout nose.

This a very complex tequila that drinks more like an añejo. Cooked agave still dominates the nose and palate, giving way to cinnamon, pepper, vanilla, caramel in the middle and butterscotch and oak to end it. The finish is long and pleasant.

Lote 2, bottle #321 Huge nose. Ripe plums, agave, baking spices, and warm applesauce. Thick and oily. There’s a lot of action here. Spices of cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg, plus citrus and undulating floral notes. Significant pepper, with some bitterness. The agave is still front and center, with some warm caramel and nuttiness. Satisfying and well balanced finish. Just the right amount of heat to offset the sweet and floral.

Strong oak in the aroma - butterscotch and almond predominate. There is also something almost like burnt wood...smoky. Just like the blanco, this is Incredibly smooth. Quite a bit of sweetness initially (vanilla, butterscotch) with a great baking spice flavor following (cinnamon, nutmeg). The finish is long and pleasant. This is a great sipper. 8/1/2015

Aroma: Strong notes of almond and vanilla. Flavor: The flavor is very oaky. It almost reminds me more of an Anejo than a Reposado. Definitely harsher and not as sweet as the aroma. Finish: Very strong. It hangs around for a while and is very nice.

Carmalized cooked agave, vanilla and butter notes make this a delicious sipper, especially with its great oily mouthfeel.

Lot 2314 Bottle No 2995 20/02/23 Mild agave aroma and flavor with a hint of citrus and cinnamon. More cinnamon and pepper on the finish with a lingering oily mouthfeel and some nutmeg, a faint sweetness, and a pleasant amount of oak. I’m picking up an intriguing nuttiness, a mix of macadamia and some cashew, likely contributors to the pleasant surprise finish. I find this well balanced. Played well with both Carpano Antica and Cocchi de Torino vermouths in Manhattan style cocktails with orange, aromatic, and grapefruit bitters delivering the accents. This is my 150th review!

Great sipping reposado at a great price! Big points on the value here. I bought this for $45. Agave and caramel up front with a peppery mint finish. NOM 1414 does reposados as well as anyone.

I think this is my favorite expression from GD. Amazing flavor, and long smooth finish. Tropical fruit, honey. I think it’s additive-free too. Tremendous value, but becoming hard to find.

This is a pretty light, simple, and easy-drinking repo. Some nice butterscotch, oak, and vanilla notes are present but there’s not much complexity. There’s also less agave than I was hoping for. I definitely don’t regret it as a bar pick, but I wouldn’t buy a bottle.

Mild and vegetal in scent with undertones of melon and baked agave. Flavor: Pleasant, pure minerality with only a hint of sweetness. Black pepper and cooked agave are added as a finishing touch. Slightly biting, but extremely enjoyable. Overall: A well-made, approachable tequila that can compete.

On the nose prominent alcohol aroma but underneath that you’ll find agave and a faint mint. At first sip you get greeted by cooked agave, some apricot sweetness and a faint orange zest. On the finish the same notes continue with a developing warmth coming from a slight oak note.

Finding Some Comforting Clues in Gran Dovejo Tequila

Gran Dovejo is made in the highlands of Jalisco using many of our favorite techniques: the use of very ripe single-estate agave, cooked in clay ovens, distilled in copper pots, and created in small batches. (In other words even more “clues.”)
