tasted at old Town cafe San Diego 2013. here are our notes. rating based on these notes. Alderete anejo- tall pyramid bottle citrus vanilla anise, sweet, juicy, similar to other XO like 42, a little hotter, might be a good bargain?

The best of the 3 expressions the are producing for this brand coming out of Vivanco NOM 1414, a nice mouth feel, and finish. Sweet agave and barrel notes

Wonderful aromas of baked agave, vanilla and oak. Pleasant flavor profile that combines honey with the agave, oak and vanilla. A somewhat dry and modest finish.

nose is mildly sweet and spicy (allspice, cloves, vanilla), like cola syrup. entry is coffee with a touch of sugar. stays that way through the finish, where vanilla make an appearance.

This añejo has an aroma that I can only describe as a beautiful perfume! Sweet vanilla, caramel and dried fruits with a touch of oak. Smooth and oily on the palate, fulfilling the vanilla and caramel taste promised in the nose. Delicate spice on the medium finish, which unfortunately lack a bit of agave. It's a very nice añejo, not overly oaked, carefully avoiding being too sweet, but not by much. A bigger agave presence would have made it great.

Could this smell any better? I doubt it! Pure fresh vanilla fill my senses, inviting me to taste. All of the good things in the blanco and reposado are still here, along with a creamy smooth wave of oily goodness. This anejo is the best of a very solid lineup.

Retains the minty flavor of the blanco, with whisky-touched barrel flavors. A tasty anejo that is not over-wooded. Nice!

Must have purchased all 3 of Alderete’s bottles years ago; finally decided to open the Anejo; Once I dusted off the bottle, right away you notice the deep, amber color of the tequila through he clear bottle; once uncorked, you really receive a strong, fragrant scent of caramel; 1st sip was shallow, but as I let the glass aerate, a much heavier, buttery tequila was pleasant across the palette; on the backend, I was left with a nice taste of lingering butterscotch; Since I don’t recall purchasing, I can’t definitively say that this was a good value; I’m guessing that I paid approximately $50.00, and that’s not a bad deal;
