NOM 1596 | On the nose, harsh and medicinal, a little agave and maybe pepper. On the palate, very thin, astringent. Not quite sour but there’s something like that there. Has a weird funk to it. A bit of agave, some pepper, maybe lemon? Overall, not good. Lunazul is not my favorite but if you absolutely must spend less than $20, that’s a much better option.

Absolutely horrible and made with a diffuser. At one time at a different Distillery, this was a well made bargain tequila.. but no more

Definitely one for cocktails you don’t care about. Good value but diffuser based.

Lote: 17AB107E21 06/21/21. 08:11 D.O.P. 375ml Very weak nose. Some agave (mostly raw) and alcohol. Not much to grab you. Flavor hits with alcohol upfront with a bitter/sourness that covers the tongue. Some mint and raw agave. Peppery medium finish that has no complexity. I would say, based on flavor, use it as a mixer, but the fact it is a diffuser product I would avoid.

NOM 1456 | Aromas of alcohol and slight vanilla. Sweet and thin in the mouth with a chile pepper finish. Sweet with possibly added glycerin.

NOM 1596 | Aroma’s not bad but not a lot there to get excited about. Flavor is okay to start, some citrus and black pepper with vegetal notes. The initial flavor is followed by a kind of bitter flavor that makes this tequila a little rough to sip. Decent for a mixer but not a repeat for me.

NOM 1456 | NOM 1456 is what the label says. My tasting experience says it’s from #1596. Mexican release. Nose: Earth, minerals, celery and a hint of pine resin. Flavor: Black pepper and spice, sweet roasted yams, and moderate bitterness.

NOM 1456 | Thick and viscous in the mouth, this passes the "rub" test, so a natural blanco. Roast agave on the nose along with a medicinal/alcohol note. Caramelized agave along with some yeast notes make this pleasing like a cheaper Don Julio blanco from a few years ago. Hard to believe these bottles were $14 in Las Vegas a few years ago. Diffuser made now so avoid.

NOM 1456 | This is not a bold or big flavor blanco. Slightly bitter and medicinal.

NOM 1456 | Camarena (and why did they have to ruin that name???) blanco - Sharp. Bananas. Bitter. Eh...Not so much. Cocktails maybe. Sipping? Hell no!

NOM 1596 | If there was ever a tequila meant to shot, this is it. Knock it back as fast as you can and get it over with. Then never speak to the person that thought that would be a good idea. Lots of alcohol up front, a little peppery, a little synthetic sweetness, but mainly alcohol. I have had worse, but then again I’ve also had better. Wouldn’t sip it, could be serviceable in a cocktail, but again, you could do better. Cheers!

NOM 1596 | Aroma-not a lot going on here. A little pepper and alcohol. Flavor is pepper with a little agave and alcohol. Finish lasts with a little burn I would mix with this, but wouldn’t pour a glass to sip on. Would work for shots. I’ve had worse.

NOM 1610, Mexican 40% abv. version, lote: 003B, bottled on 16-11-2021, tasted on 10-16-23. Aroma: sweet cooked agave, light resinous sweetness, lemon & lime, light acidity, a touch of lactic note. Palate: confirms aromas perceived, lactic note is more apparent on the palate, good sweet sour & acidic balance. Finish is medium to medium long, sweet cooked agave with light resinous sweetness persists.

Tequilas worth a shot (or sip)

When it comes to tequila, the basic choice is simple: 100% agave, or not 100% agave. Of course, this is like saying that when it comes to music, there’s Mozart or there’s a guy named Steve-O playing the kazoo version of Eine kleine Nachtmusik alone in a b
