NOM 1079- absolutely delicious tequila, and my favorite from 1079. The older ones are even better, but all the 1921's were fantastic.

Aroma: honey, agave, citrus, earth, clay pot, floral. Palate: cooked agave and citrus, orange blossom, floral. Finish: smoky, earth, spices and herbal.

NOM 1499 | Roasted agave is present off the nose, comes off a bit sweet but still enticing. Really peppery and old school flavour, I really misunderstood this when I first tried it years ago, it’s surprisingly elegant. I recommend giving it a try.

NOM 1499 | Nose: Minerals and bread dough. Agave, lime peel, hay and trace mint and cinnamon. Flavor: A caramel-like, chewy agave sweetness. Feisty pepper and cinnamon “red hots”. There is a slightly “ different” nuance to the end of the sweetness that I can’t quite nail. Maybe stale, soggy graham crackers? Not necessarily a flaw - but different. Finish has definite heat to it. It doesn’t take on any further complexities.

NOM 1535 | Nose: Fruity agave start. Ripe pitted fruits with clove and nutmeg. A hint of smoke. Flavor: Starts softly in the mouth. Then baked agave, vanilla and light pepper emerge. Some cinnamon makes an entry. Finishes with pepper and hazelnut.

Agave, spice with a bit of honey. Interesting but a bit harsh for my taste

Distinct aroma of agave with just a slight bit of citrus. Strong flavor of anise again with just a bit of citrus at the end. The finish is warm and peppery and moderately long. A nice blanco but definitely not something I could sip for an extended time.

NOM 1079 | Expect a sweet spice with a lot of mineral bottom notes. Also, look for a hint of mildew! The treasure bottle variant of this brand features a thin leather strap embedded in the top cork. If you find one of these "leatherstraps" you are indeed in for a treat!

Vegetal and sweet, a classic Los Altos profile, with a well rounded aromatic structure but some sharpness that prevents it from being a good sipper, but really good in cocktails

NOM 1535 | This is from an old bottle. Ok to good aroma. A really interesting taste—cinnamon red hots that have fermented. Finish is good. Warm and slightly sweet.

NOM 1499 | The aroma smells of alcohol, agave, citrus, butterscotch, caramel and olives. The smell reminds me of mezcal. On the palate is cooked agave followed by a peppery note that becomes quickly overtaken by sweet buttery caramel notes, reminds me of Werthers butterscotches . There is earthy taste that trails off with the tanginess of pineapple as it finishes and fades into minerals and fruit. Pleasantly surprised by this drink, despite the initial alcohol/smokey smell.

Good neat, but makes the best margaritas of any Blanco I've tasted.

NOM 1535 | NOM 1535. Massively overpriced and easily one of the least pleasant tequilas I've ever had. I don't even like to use it in mixed drinks as the flavour is unpleasant and overpowering.

Blanco Tequila: The Great Divide

While the panel’s favorites were complex, elemental and intriguing, we were troubled by a lack of intensity in many of the bottles as well as by a sense of artificiality in some. As Florence put it, we found a great divide between those tequilas we liked

Review #93 - 1921 Tequila Blanco

Admittedly, I like aged tequilas better than blancos in most instances, but I really appreciate the clean, spicy and earthy flavors of a good blanco.
