NOM 1616 | Caramel, earth, oak, leather, whisky, butterscotch, spice, and a touch of orange bitters. Pricey.

NOM 1616 | Aroma of strong caramel, oak, cooked agave and pitted fruit Taste is similar- caramel up front then close behind is a cooked agave presence with little oak following. and finishes with a pitted fruit.

NOM 1500 | Very good tequila, however the price point significantly hurts the overall score

NOM 1616 | Aroma: Deep notes of butterscotch, oak, vanilla, with fainter notes of cooked agave. Taste: Matches the aroma almost exactly, slightly sweet. Finish: Smooth, with a nice tequila agave alcohol bite at the end. Overall: An excellent XA tequila, similar to the añejo but with a more deep developed taste. Loses some points on value, however.

NOM 1500 | Really like the XA. Spice and dried fruit. Balanced and finished well. Would of scored higher except the for the price point.

NOM 1500 | Fantastic juice! Loads of cooked agave, earth, wine, vanilla, oak, cinnamon, clove, and a dry finish. No shortcuts here. The $300 price tag was steep but this is among the best that are aged 5 years or more.

NOM 1500 | Deep, rich aroma with earth/clay, caramel and vanilla upfront. Underlying fruit and floral notes as well. Unique flavor with a strong note of coffee immediately present. The barrel is also very present. The finish is relatively short with a persistent coffee note. I was excited to try this tequila and while I wouldn't say I am disappointed I would say it is over-priced ($225) and more in the category of the Reserva de la Familia than other XAs that I prefer. 12/30/2016 - 4th Annual Xmas XA tasting.

NOM 1500 | Aroma: very complex and interesting. Mainly consisting of two notes: clay and caramel. Each time I get a different mix. There is also a bit of berry. Flavor: Overwhelmingly heavy with oak and coffee. This is very much what I would consider a whisk(e)y drinkers tequila. Very barrel heavy. Not my favorite flavors but I can appreciate knowing there are certain people who would love this. Finish: Finish is nice but not quite as good as the Anejo.

NOM 1616 | Certainly best of the Codigos. Woody aroma. Hints of vanilla and caramel. But not as complex or interesting as compared to non-additive brands in the same price bracket or below.

NOM 1616 | The aroma is potent with cherry oak, barrel spice, whiskey, and wood The taste is bold: cherry, oak, cacao, spice, wine, whiskey, citrus, molasses, tropical, minerality, brine, and barrel spice Finish is lasting with tropical notes, cooked agave and minerality. Pleasant, decadent and refined but not overtly thrilling. Made for cigars and winters. Would buy again.

NOM 1616 | A classic XA. Aromas of cinnamon, oak, caramel, vanilla with an undertone of cooked agave. More agave on the palate compare to the nose with notes of vanilla, oak, black pepper, and raisin. The finish was alright, it was just a little hot for an XA.

NOM 1616 | Loads of depth in the aroma. I get caramel, butterscotch and earthiness. Similar on the palate with a lot of caramel and a bit of leather. Great viscosity and complexity. For $300+ it’s pretty bad value but makes the $40 Codigo tasting set an excellent value.

Solid xtra aged añejo, but the price point is too high. Far better options available for much less!

NOM 1616 | The smell is strong oak and a bit of alcohol. The taste matches the nose, strong oak flavor and has a bit of a harsh rasp. Not smooth enough for its price point in my opinion.

NOM 1616 | Tasted for the 2nd time in April 2023. Very heavy evergreen / pine aroma. Bitter flavor. Unpleasant finish and aftertaste. Very unique but I wouldn’t drink again. Maybe good for adding an interesting dimension to a cocktail.

NOM 1616 | Aroma- complex, deep caramel, all spice, hint of agave Taste- spicy, playful but rich Finish- oak, agave, cinnamon, hint of caramel, somehow more bite than the añejo Overall- A delicious complex EA, that is somehow more agave forward than the añejo. A bit expensive, but worth it if you can score a deal!

I had to drink 2 bottles of this wonderful liquid gold to really appreciate it. The most complex XA I’ve tried and I did quite a few. Let it air out some alcohol and appreciate the full complexity.

NOM 1616 | It’s unmistakably tequila, As you may know some extra Anejos lose the tequila taste and gain a lot of barrel flavor, this one, however, still retains a good agave and the barrel. Very rich and complex on the nose. The flavor is also complex and tingely with just some subtle tequila bite. It’s a very pleasant sipper, however, at this price range it’s not a good value. There are probably 10 other tequilas I would recommend before you spend $300 on this.
