Light straw color, interesting for an añejo. Big agave nose for an aged tequila, with barrel notes around the edges. Warm and thick on the palate with big pepper and oak notes. Beautiful. This is not overpowered by whiskey barrel notes at all. This could actually be a reposado. Not sweet like many anejos. Finish is long, warm and peppery. Too bad it's not available anymore.

Smells and tastes delicious. Nice compliment of sweetness from aging but still packs a light bite that lingers.

Nice vegetal and earthy notes. If you see this bottle on the shelf, buy it! This is a rare find.

While I like the dry earthy agave and chocolate mint notes in this Penca Azul añejo, there is a funky element that kind of reminds me of mezcal con gusano - a little smokey and a touch of rubber hose and varnish. Some people may not dig those traits, but I do. The taste of this tequila is not sweet, but has a touch of bitterness. The finish is the favorite part, as it has a lot of depth and is somewhat long and complex that ends with a touch of cocoa powder.

This tequila is like the too much kid in junior high who grew up to be still a bit dorky but also a cyber security expert who runs you around the block when it comes to keeping your own kids computer from being hijacked. Still on the sweet side with an early finish (see repo) but edges are gone and makes it pleasant to drink.
