Nose: Grassy agave, and a peculiar aroma that I always find in La Cofradía bottlings, something that makes me think of fruit pits. Palate: Surprisingly mellow for higher proof, initial hot burst of agave and subtle minerality, relatively short finish. I get that grassy fruit pit flavor, very subtle. Mixed up in a margarita and the higher proof absolutely shines. As a sipper, it’s decent, as a mixer, it’s rock solid.
VinePair asked bartenders around the country which bottles and brands aren’t getting the love they deserve.
Elvelo Tequila is yet another brand to add to the list, coming out of La Cofradia distillery- NOM 1137 in the valle region of Jalisco, Mexico.
